Metin2 Client Installation and Common Errors
The first step to playing on a new Metin2 Pvp server is installing its client, and that's exactly where most problems show up: a game that won't start, a missing-file warning or an update that never finishes. Here's how to install the client safely and what to try, in order, when you run into the most common Metin2 client errors.
Download the client safely
Only download the client from the server's own official website; the "Visit website" button on our server pages takes you straight there. Don't trust clients sent privately on Discord, shared in video descriptions or offered as "sped-up" versions; they can contain programs that steal your account details. We covered this in detail in our account security guide.
If the download was interrupted or the archive gives an error on extraction, delete it and download it again. A client installed from a corrupted archive causes hard-to-explain errors later on.
Step-by-step installation
- Extract the whole archive: The client usually comes as a zip or rar archive. Don't run files from inside it; extract everything to a folder first.
- Pick the right folder: Instead of protected folders like "Program Files", use a short path with write access, such as
C:\Games. With some clients, keeping non-English characters and spaces out of the folder name avoids problems from the start. - Run the updater first: If the client has an updater (patcher or launcher), open it first and don't start the game until the update finishes.
- Run as administrator if needed: If the updater can't write files, right-click its icon and try "Run as administrator".
- Adjust the settings: In the client's settings program, pick the resolution and window mode for your screen.
Common errors and fixes
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The update stops halfway | Connection drop or no write permission | Check your internet, run as administrator, move the client to a folder outside Program Files |
| Pack error | Missing or corrupted game file | Use the updater's repair option or download the client again from the official site |
| "... .dll not found" warning | Missing Windows component | Install the DirectX and Visual C++ packages from Microsoft's official website |
| The game opens and closes right away | Missing file or incompatible display setting | Repair the files, try window mode in the settings program |
| Black screen, distorted image | Outdated graphics card driver | Update the driver from the graphics card maker's website |
| Can't connect to the server | Maintenance, heavy load or firewall | Check the server's announcements; if the firewall asks, only allow a client from the official source |
The official Metin2 wiki also recommends updating or repairing the client with the updater for pack errors. Pvp servers' updaters may look different, but the idea is the same: fill in the missing files.
Don't take shortcuts with missing DLL warnings
A "DLL file not found" warning means Windows is missing a component the game needs. Files starting with d3dx9 belong to DirectX; those starting with MSVCP or VCRUNTIME belong to the Visual C++ packages.
Don't copy files from sites that hand out individual DLLs into your game folder; they may be the wrong version or even malicious. The right fix is to install the relevant package from Microsoft's official website and then restart your computer.
If your antivirus or Windows shows a warning
If your antivirus blocks a client file, don't switch off your protection first. Check where the file came from: if it's not from the official site, delete it right away. If it is, delete it, download the client again from the official site and report the issue to the server team; if the file itself is the problem, the team has to fix it.
Windows' warning for unrecognized apps can also appear for unsigned programs. If you're not sure the file came from an official source, don't continue; when in doubt, not running it is always the cheaper option.
If the problem still isn't solved
- Write to the support channel: On the server's Discord, post a screenshot of the error message, your Windows version and the steps you've tried.
- Ask the community: Others may have the same error; you can ask in the Support category on our forum.
- Be careful with remote access: Don't let strangers who offer help connect to your computer remotely.
- If the game opens but stutters: The problem is performance, not the installation. Check our FPS boost guide and, for lag, our ping reduction guide.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my Metin2 client open?
The most common causes are missing or corrupted files, missing Windows components and an installation in a folder without write permission. Repair the client with the updater first; if that fails, download it again from the official site and install it in a folder outside Program Files.
My antivirus is blocking the client. What should I do?
Don't switch off your protection. Delete the file, download the client again only from the server's official site and report the issue to the server team. Never run a file whose source you're not sure of.
Where should I install the client?
In a short folder with write access and no non-English characters in its name; for example, a folder named after the server under C:\Games.
Can I download a missing DLL file on its own from the internet?
It's not recommended. Sites that hand out individual DLLs may give you the wrong version or a malicious file; install the missing component with Microsoft's official packages instead.
