Oldschool Metin2 Pvp Servers: A Guide for Classic Gameplay Fans

A simple interface, familiar maps and a character whose strength you earn by upgrading your gear and hunting for the right bonuses: that's the promise of oldschool Metin2 Pvp servers. But not every server labeled "oldschool" offers the same experience; some stay truly classic, while others add new systems on top of the old maps. This guide covers what awaits you on an oldschool Metin2 Pvp server, where Pvp strength comes from and how to pick the server that suits you.

Oldschool describes an era, not a pace

Oldschool servers aim to keep the gameplay of Metin2's early years alive. Old maps, classic dungeons and simple systems come first, and most have a 1-99 level range. Systems that arrived later, such as Dragon Stone Alchemy, the Shoulder Sash and the Pet System, are usually left out or kept limited. The Shoulder Sash, for example, was added to the official game in 2015.

The label tells you which era of the game a server is based on, not how fast you'll progress. An oldschool server can be Hardwork or For VS. We explain this split between content and pace in detail in our server types guide.

On our site, every server is listed in a single category chosen by its owner. So a Hardwork server with an oldschool feel may appear in the Hardwork category instead of Oldschool. When you browse the Oldschool servers list, don't overlook the other categories and the server descriptions.

What awaits you in classic gameplay?

On an oldschool server, the core gameplay loop is familiar:

  • Four classic classes: Warrior, Ninja, Sura and Shaman. Most oldschool servers don't have the Lycan.
  • A well-known path to progress: You level up by hunting monsters, destroying Metin stones and doing quests. You take your skills to G (Grand Master) with Skill Books and to P (Perfect Master) with Soul Stones.
  • Gear takes effort: You upgrade your weapon and armor at the Blacksmith up to +9 and use Enchant Items to roll for the right bonuses. On the official servers, a failed upgrade at the Blacksmith destroys the item, so every + level is a decision of its own.
  • Familiar dungeons: The game's best-known dungeons, such as the Demon Tower and the Spider Dungeon, are usually part of your leveling route.

These skill and upgrade rules are based on the official servers. Pvp servers can change rates, drops and upgrade chances, so check your server's own guide too.

Pvp on oldschool servers: where does strength come from?

Without layers like costume bonuses, dragon stones and shoulder sashes, a few familiar things decide the gap between characters: the upgrade level of your gear, your bonuses, whether your skills are at M, G or P, and your own ability as a player. This simplicity has two consequences:

  • The gap can close: Once a latecomer completes their gear, they can catch up with veteran players more easily than on servers with layered systems.
  • Class balance takes center stage: With few extra bonus layers, class differences can feel sharper, and which class is strongest in the classic setup is a frequent debate. If the team has adjusted the classes, it should say so clearly in its announcements.

Group Pvp revolves around guild wars and the rivalry between the three kingdoms (Shinsoo, Chunjo and Jinno). On an oldschool server, a big guild is worth as much as one of the most valuable items.

Not every oldschool server is the same: what to check in the description

What you see in the description What to ask
The "Oldschool" label Which systems are included, such as alchemy, shoulder sashes, pets, costumes or mounts?
Level range Is it 1-99 or 1-105? Is there new content after level 99?
Rates Is the server Hardwork, Medium Hardwork or For VS? Are the rates clearly stated?
Classes Is the Lycan available, and has the class balance been changed?
Item Shop Does it sell power items that would upset the classic balance?

If the label and the description don't match, ask the team before you decide. We compare what each level range offers in our 1-99, 1-105 and 1-120 guide. If you want to play with the classic level cap, the 1-99 servers page is a good place to start.

Is oldschool right for you?

  • If you love nostalgia: If you want to relive the setup you played years ago and the balance of that era, you're in the right place.
  • If you're learning the game: Fewer systems make it easier to grasp the basic mechanics.
  • If you want long-term goals: After the max level, what keeps the game alive is +9 gear, completed bonuses, P skills and regular events. Check the server's description and announcements to see whether it runs regular events.
  • If you love layered systems: If you enjoy working on costume combos, pets and dragon stones, Newschool servers will give you more goals.

Frequently asked questions

What is an oldschool Metin2 server?

It's a server based on the gameplay of Metin2's early years that puts old maps, classic dungeons and simple systems first. Most are 1-99 and make little room for systems that came later.

Is the Lycan available on oldschool servers?

On most of them, no; the game is played with the four classic classes. If you want to play a Lycan, check the class list in the server's description.

Is an oldschool server good for beginners?

Yes. With fewer systems, the basics of the game are easy to learn. Still, check whether the server's pace fits your playtime.

Do oldschool servers last long?

That's the general trend, because the content runs out slowly and players invest in their characters for a long time. Still, what really decides a server's lifespan is the stability of the team and the size of the community.
