Metin2 FPS Boost: Real Fixes for Freezing and Stuttering
A screen that locks up in the middle of the market or a character moving frame by frame in a guild war makes even the best gear useless. Metin2 may have been designed years ago, but crowded maps, heavy effects and programs running in the background can push even powerful computers to their limits. This guide collects safe methods you can apply step by step to boost your Metin2 FPS and fix freezing. None of them require extra programs or modified files.
Diagnose first: FPS or latency?
FPS is the number of frames your screen draws per second. When FPS is low, the picture stutters and camera and character movement look choppy. When latency (ping) is high, the picture stays smooth, but your hits register late and your character jumps from one spot to another. The two problems have different fixes, so start with a diagnosis.
- Measure your FPS. The performance window of the Windows Game Bar (opened with Win+G) or your graphics card software's overlay shows your current FPS. Some Pvp clients also have an in-game FPS counter.
- Notice when it drops. Does it only drop in the crowded market and during battles, or on an empty map too? The first is usually fixed with settings, the second mostly on the computer side.
Quick wins with in-game settings
- Lower or turn off shadows. Even in older games, shadows are among the most resource-hungry settings.
- Reduce view distance and effects. If your client has these options, they make the biggest difference in crowded places.
- Experiment with the resolution. A lower resolution means higher FPS. Also compare windowed and full-screen mode; on some systems one is noticeably smoother.
- Simplify crowded scenes. Some Pvp clients let you hide private shops, player names or pets. If you freeze in the market area, check these options first.
- Don't run too many clients at once. Every open client takes a share of your CPU and memory. If you play with more than one character, this may be the main cause of your freezes.
Windows and graphics card settings
- Pick the right graphics card. On laptops, the game often launches on the weak integrated graphics. In the Windows Graphics settings, select "High performance" for the game's executable; you can make the same choice in your graphics card's own control panel.
- Change your power plan. Set the power mode to best performance. Playing with your laptop plugged in keeps battery saving from throttling performance.
- Turn on Game Mode. Windows Game Mode tries to reduce background activity while you play.
- Clean up the background. Browser tabs playing video, screen recorders and apps that show an in-game overlay quietly drag your FPS down.
- Update your driver. Download your graphics card driver only from the manufacturer's official website or official software.
Hardware checks for freezing
- Check for overheating. If the game starts stuttering after a while, heat is a likely cause. Clean the dust out of the fan and vents, and use your laptop on a flat, hard surface.
- Install the client in the right place. If possible, install the game on an SSD and leave free space on the drive. In synced folders such as OneDrive (often the Desktop and Documents), game files may be scanned and synced all the time; installing the client in a separate folder outside them can reduce stuttering.
- Free up memory. If lots of programs are open alongside the game, memory fills up and the computer starts using the disk as virtual memory, which causes stutters. Check memory usage in Task Manager.
What to stay away from
- "FPS booster" files: "Optimized clients", "FPS patches" or replacement files shared on forums and social media can carry malware and get your account stolen. Many servers treat a modified client as cheating and ban the account.
- Turning off your antivirus completely: Don't give up security for performance. Only download the client from the server's own website. We cover safe gaming habits in our account security guide.
If it's still not fixed
Check whether you have the same problem with another server's client. If you don't, the problem is most likely that server's client; report it in the server's Discord support channel, including your operating system, your graphics card and when the problem started. You can also post it in the Support section of our forum. Smooth gameplay makes a real difference in duels, too: our 1v1 duel tactics are much easier to pull off on a smooth screen. Frequently asked questions
Why does FPS drop in Metin2?
The most common causes are high shadow and effect settings, crowded market areas, several clients open at once, background programs and, on laptops, the game running on integrated graphics.
Why does my game freeze at the market?
In the market area, lots of shops and players are drawn at the same time. Lowering shadows and effects and, if your client allows it, hiding shops noticeably reduces these freezes.
Are FPS booster programs safe?
Usually not. Programs from unofficial sources and modified client files can carry malware and may count as cheating under server rules.
My screen is smooth but my hits are delayed. Why?
That's usually not an FPS problem but high latency (ping). Check your connection and your distance to the server.
