Metin2 Pvp Guide: 15 Tactics to Win 1v1 Duels

A 1v1 duel is Metin2 Pvp in its purest form: two characters, two players and decisions measured in seconds. When two players have the same gear, the winner is usually decided by preparation, timing and patience. Here are 15 tactics that work for every class.

Before the duel

1. Know your opponent

Their class and skill group largely decide how your opponent will play. A Weaponry Sura and an Archery Ninja don't fight from the same distance. If you're not sure where each class is strong, take a look at our class guide.

2. Pick your bonuses for your opponent

On many servers there are bonuses that make you stronger against certain classes and protect you from certain types of attack. Preparing a spare gear set for the class you face most often can change your duels considerably.

3. Activate your buffs before the duel

Activate your self-buffs before the fight starts and keep an eye on how long they last. A buff that runs out in the middle of a fight leaves you exposed at the most critical moment.

4. Set up your potion hotkeys

Keep your Red Potions (HP) and, if you have them, speed or attack potions on the quickslot bar, on keys your fingers can reach easily. Opening your inventory during a duel hands your opponent free seconds.

5. Check your ping and frame rate

High latency (ping) or a low frame rate (FPS) slows down even the best player. Before a duel, stop any downloads running in the background and lower your graphics settings until the game runs smoothly.

During the duel

6. Don't rush the first move

Whoever attacks first doesn't always win. Waiting for your opponent to waste their first skill and then hitting back is often more effective.

7. Count the cooldowns

Every skill has a cooldown. Once your opponent has used their strongest skill, the time until it's ready again is your window to attack.

8. Control the distance

If you're a melee fighter, stick to your opponent; if you're ranged, keep your distance. The right distance stops your opponent from using their strongest skills.

9. Keep moving

Standing still while trading hits lets your opponent land every skill with ease. Changing direction between hits and side-stepping makes many skills miss.

10. Time your stuns and slows

Use skills that stun or slow your opponent right before your strongest attacks. Getting the most damage out of the effect's duration shortens the duel.

11. Drink potions before your HP gets critical

A potion you drink when your HP is very low often comes too late, because your opponent can finish you with a single combo. It's safer to drink one between attacks once your HP drops below half.

12. Know when to back off

In a duel you're losing, pulling back to drink a potion, refresh your buffs and attack again turns many fights around. Opening up distance works especially well against melee fighters in open areas.

After the duel

13. Record and review

Recording the duels you lose and watching them back is the fastest way to see where you went wrong. Most players repeat the same mistake over and over and only notice it once they watch the footage.

14. Practice regularly

Friendly duels with your guild mates sharpen your reflexes against different classes. Don't enter a tournament without fighting each class at least a few times.

15. Keep up with the server's balance

Updates can change skill damage and item stats. Follow the server's announcements and patch notes; a tactic that worked yesterday may be outdated today.

Quick notes by class

  • Warrior: Stay close to your opponent and step up the pressure while your buffs are active.
  • Ninja: Your burst damage is high but your defense is weak, so hit, back off and hit again.
  • Sura: The timing of your buff and curse skills decides the duel.
  • Shaman: Keep your distance and use your healing and support spells on time.
  • Lycan: Use your speed to force your opponent to keep moving.

Frequently asked questions

What matters more in Pvp, gear or skill?

Both matter, but between two players with similar gear it's always the player's skill that makes the difference. Your gear takes you to a certain level; timing and patience win the duel.

Which class is strongest in a duel?

That depends on the server's balance. Check our class guide for the general trends, and remember that every class has a counter.

What's the best way to practice Pvp?

Regular friendly duels with your guild mates and the server's tournament events. Practicing against different classes in particular gets you ready for real fights.
