Metin2 Pvp Positioning and Map Awareness

In Metin2 Pvp, where you stand matters as much as how hard you hit. The right position wastes your opponent's strongest skills; the wrong one makes even the best gear useless. Here's how to position yourself in 1v1 and group fights and use the terrain and map to your advantage. Skill information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change maps and skill values.

Positioning in 1v1: distance and angle

Your class sets your distance

Warriors, Blade-Fight Ninjas and Weaponry Suras want to stay glued to their opponent. Archery Ninjas, Black Magic Suras and Shamans are strong as long as they keep their distance. Know your ideal distance, keep the fight there and deny your opponent theirs.

Know the tools that control distance:

  • Speed boosts: The Archery Ninja's Feather Walk, the Shaman's Swiftness, the Warrior's Berserk and the Purple Potion raise movement speed.
  • Slows: Slowing chance cuts the opponent's movement speed for a while; the Shaman's Flying Talisman also has a chance to slow.
  • Gap closers: The Warrior's Dash closes the distance in an instant and can stun its target. Without Defence against faint, distance alone won't keep you safe from a Warrior.

Watch the angle

On the official servers, the Ninja's Ambush skill deals more damage when used from behind the opponent. Against a Blade-Fight Ninja, keep facing them; if you're the Ninja, keep changing your angle to get behind your opponent. For details, see our Pvp against Ninjas article.

Terrain: narrow passes, open ground and obstacles

  • Narrow passes: In tight spots like corridors, bridges or gates, opponents bunch up. On the official servers, Sword Spin can hit up to 12 opponents, Dragon's Roar 15 and Summon Lightning 16. For a defending team with strong area damage, a narrow pass is a big advantage; an attacking team should go in spread out.
  • Open ground: Ideal for ranged classes, since keeping your distance is easy. Melee fighters can only close in here with speed and stuns.
  • Walls and corners: A wall at your back makes it harder for a Ninja to get behind you, but it narrows your escape route. Know where you'll retreat before you're cornered.
  • Fallback point: Pick a spot the enemy can't easily reach, where you can drink potions and renew buffs.

Reading the map

In the official client, you can open the large map with the M key or the M button next to the mini map. On the large map, your own position shows as a flashing blue circle, and if you're on the same map, your group members appear as blue markers. Guild Lands are marked with a flag icon.

  • Walk the map before the fight: Scout narrow passes, retreat routes and meeting points in advance.
  • Form a group: Seeing your teammates on the large map makes it easier to regroup a scattered team.
  • Name your spots: Shared names like "bridge" or "north gate" save time in voice chat.

In free Pvp areas such as the Combat Zone on the official servers, spawn points are chosen at random, and opponents' names, kingdoms and guilds are hidden. Roaming open ground alone there is risky. For an overview of the maps, see our map guide.

Positioning in group fights

  • Hold your lines: The front line absorbs the pressure, and the back line deals damage from behind it. Formations are covered in our guild war tactics article.
  • Protect the healer: Since the Shaman's Cure can also be cast on group members, the healer should stand where they can reach the front line while staying safe from enemy Ninjas.
  • Don't bunch up: Leave space between and within your lines; area skills punish crowds.
  • Target the straggler: An opponent who drifts from their group or pushes too far is the easiest target.
  • Line up for the objective: In Capture the Flag, the flag carrier slows down, so they need an escort; in Shield Battle, the attacking and defending teams start from different positions.

Common positioning mistakes

  • Pushing too far forward: A player cut off from the team becomes the first target.
  • Ignoring your escape route: Jump into a fight without knowing where to retreat, and you can't recover when things go wrong.
  • Diving into the middle of a crowd: It turns you into a target for area skills.
  • Not watching your back: Turning your back on a Ninja means taking extra damage.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best position in Pvp?

It depends on your class. Melee fighters are strong when glued to their opponent, ranged fighters in open areas where they can keep their distance. Either way, fight from a spot where you know where to retreat.

How do I open the large map?

In the official client, with the M key or the M button next to the mini map. If you're on the same map, your group members appear on the large map as blue markers.

Is fighting in a narrow pass an advantage?

For a defending team with strong area damage, it usually is. An attacking team crowding into a narrow spot, however, becomes an easy target for area skills.

How should I position myself against a Ninja?

Keep facing them and don't let them get behind you. On the official servers, Ambush deals more damage when used from behind.
