Metin2 Tournament and Arena Prep: Pre-Match Checklist
Metin2 tournament and arena matches aren't ordinary duels: the rules are fixed, opponents come prepared and there's little room for mistakes. Most tournaments are won or lost in the preparation before the match even starts. Below, we've listed what to check before a match, step by step. The Arena information is based on the official servers; tournaments on Pvp servers follow their own rules.
How does the official Arena work?
On the official servers, the Arena is a special duel map for two players. To enter, you talk to Yu-Hwan, who stands near the city square in the second villages (Yayang, Bokjung, Bakra). The rules on the wiki:
- Potion ban: Red and blue potions can't be used on this map.
- Rounds: The first player to win 3 rounds wins the match.
- Level difference: The level difference between opponents can be at most 15.
- Revival: You're revived automatically at the end of each round.
- Spectator mode: You can watch duels as a spectator without fighting.
What these rules mean for Pvp is clear: without potions, your HP pool, your defensive bonuses and your buff timing are everything. The round system, on the other hand, lets you use the first round to gather information.
Learn the rules
Tournaments on Pvp servers can be knockout, group-stage or guild-based, and each format has its own rules. Before the match, know the answers to these questions:
- Format: A single match or several rounds? What happens in a draw?
- Potion rules: Are red and blue potions allowed? Can buffs like the Green and Purple Potions be used?
- Item limits: Is there a cap on upgrade levels, bonuses or specific items?
- Level and class rules: Is there a level cap, and are some classes in separate brackets?
- Time and place: What are the match time, channel and meeting point?
Cheats and macros are banned in tournaments; a player who gets caught can be disqualified and puts their account at risk too.
Character and gear check
- Bonus set: Pick bonuses such as Defence against Warrior, Ninja, Sura or Shaman based on the classes you'll face most in the tournament. In matches where potions are banned, Max. HP and Resistance to Half Humans become even more valuable.
- Shield: Against Warriors, Defence against faint considerably lowers Dash's stun chance on the official servers.
- Backup set: Prepare a second set for different opponents and make room for it in your inventory.
- Hotkey layout: Keep your skills and allowed potions on the same keys every time.
You'll find detailed tactics against Warriors, Ninjas, Suras and Shamans in the Pvp tactics articles on our blog.
Tech check
In a tournament, a one-second stutter can cost you the match. Before playing, close any downloads running in the background, make sure your client is up to date and test your connection. For smooth visuals, see our FPS boost guide; for lag, check our ping reduction article.
Opponent analysis
Knowing your opponent before the match is half the battle. Watch the matches you can follow as a spectator and note:
- Your opponent's class and skill group
- Which buffs they bring into the fight
- Which skill they open the fight with
- Whether they retreat or attack when their HP gets low
Match day checklist
| When? | What should you do? |
|---|---|
| A day before | Read the rules, prepare your bonus set and backup set |
| An hour before | Check your consumables, inventory and hotkeys |
| Fifteen minutes before | Test your connection, play a warm-up duel |
| Right before the match | If allowed, drink long-lasting potions; on the official servers, the Green Potion (L) lasts 10 minutes |
| During the match | Keep track of your buff timers, stay calm |
| After the match | Watch your recording, note your mistakes |

Mental preparation
Losing a round doesn't mean the match is over. Between rounds, think about what happened: which move did your opponent catch you with, and which window did you miss? Change one thing in the next round. A round played in anger often costs you the next one too.

Frequently asked questions
How do you enter the arena in Metin2?
On the official servers, you enter the Arena by talking to Yu-Hwan near the city square in a second village. Pvp servers may run arenas and tournaments with their own systems.
Can you use potions in the arena?
On the official servers' Arena map, red and blue potions can't be used. Tournament rules on Pvp servers may differ, so always check before the match.
What should I pay the most attention to before a tournament?
The rules and your opponents. Knowing which items and potions are allowed and choosing bonuses for the classes you'll face most often are the two most important steps of your preparation.
How do I make up for a lost round in a tournament?
Between rounds, focus on a single mistake and fix only that in the next round. In a format like the official Arena, where the first to win 3 rounds takes the match, losing one round doesn't mean losing the match.
