Metin2 Pvp Against Lycans: How to Stop a Lycan

The Lycan is a melee fighter that strikes in chains with its claws, closes the distance by leaping at its opponent and draws power from wolf souls. To beat a Lycan in Pvp, know what their skills do and go in prepared for each one. Here are the Lycan's most dangerous tools and how to neutralize them. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change skill values, and not every server has the Lycan.

The Lycan's toolkit

The Lycan has a single skill group, so every Lycan you face brings roughly the same tools. Shred, Wolf Pounce, Wolf's Claw and Wolf's Breath are listed as physical attacks on the official wiki.

Skill Effect on the official servers Your answer
Shred A powerful blow with a chance of critical hits and bleeding Bleeding attack resistance
Wolf Pounce Leaps at the opponent and hits up to 5 opponents Don't rely on distance alone
Wolf's Claw Lowers the opponent's defense and movement speed Hit back instead of running
Wolf's Breath Hits up to 10 opponents in front, with a chance to stun Defence against faint on your shield
Crimson Wolf Soul Gives attack value and piercing hit chance; costs SP every second while active Pressure their SP
Indigo Wolf Soul Raises the group's attack speed and chance to avoid arrows As an Archery Ninja, rely on your skills

We covered the Lycan's skill priority and stat logic in our Lycan guide. Here, we look at it from the other side.

Bonuses and gear against Lycans

The first step in stopping a Lycan happens before the duel:

  • Claw Defence: Reduces the damage you take from players using claws; since only the Lycan uses claws, it targets them directly. On the official servers, it appears on necklaces, earrings, armor and shoes at up to 15%.
  • Defence against Lycan: Reduces the damage you take from Lycan characters and only works against players. On the official servers, items such as the Tourmaline Bracelet and the Three Emperors Shield carry it.
  • Defence against faint: Appears on shields and greatly reduces Wolf's Breath's chance to stun you.
  • Bleeding attack resistance: Reduces the damage of Shred's bleeding, but not the chance of it. Appears on earrings and gloves.
  • Resistance against piercing hits: Crimson Wolf Soul gives piercing hit chance, so don't rely on your defense alone. This resistance lowers your opponent's chance of landing piercing hits; on the official servers, it comes from the Dragon Onyx in alchemy.

Don't prioritize Magic Resistance against a Lycan: their attack skills are physical, so it does little against them. Give that armor slot to Claw Defence instead.

Positioning and timing

Wolf's Claw and Wolf's Breath hit the opponents in front of the Lycan. So where you stand matters as much as how tough you are:

  • Don't line up in front of them: In group fights, bunching up in front of a Lycan lets Wolf's Breath hit many people at once. Spread out to the sides as a team.
  • Count the cooldowns: In the official tables, Wolf's Breath has a 20-second cooldown, and the other three attack skills 12 seconds. A Lycan who has used Wolf's Breath can't try the same stun again for a while; save your real combo for that window.
  • Don't take distance for granted: A Lycan can leap at you with Wolf Pounce, so ranged classes must be ready for a sudden approach too.
  • Don't run after Wolf's Claw: This skill lowers your defense and movement speed, and getting away from a Lycan while slowed is hard. Turn on your buffs and hit back. If you do plan an escape, keep a Purple Potion, which raises movement speed, ready on your quickslot bar.

Wear down Crimson Wolf Soul

Crimson Wolf Soul is the core buff that fuels the Lycan's attacks, and it costs SP every second while active. The longer the fight lasts, the more pressure the Lycan's SP is under.

  • Chance to rob SP: Has a certain chance to reduce the opponent's SP on regular hits. A Lycan running low on SP struggles both to keep their buff up and to use their skills.
  • Dispel: This Weaponry Sura skill has a chance to remove the opponent's positive effects. If you manage to wipe Crimson Wolf Soul, the Lycan's attack value drops.

Quick notes by class

  • Warrior: Since Dash can stun its target, you can open the first window yourself. Carry Defence against faint on your shield against Wolf's Breath, too.
  • Archery Ninja: Indigo Wolf Soul's chance to avoid arrows works against regular arrow shots, not against your skills. Keep your distance and deal your damage with skills.
  • Blade-Fight Ninja: Your light armor can't withstand a Lycan's chain of attacks for long. Avoid long exchanges of hits; save your strongest skills for when the Lycan has used Wolf's Breath.
  • Sura: As a Weaponry Sura, target Crimson Wolf Soul with Dispel. As a Black Magic Sura, keep your distance with Spirit Strike's slowing chance.
  • Shaman: The slowing chance of Flying Talisman and Lightning Claw makes it harder for the Lycan to reach you.

A Lycan's strength varies from server to server. Look for current servers with the Lycan among Newschool servers and share the tactics that work for you in the forum. For general duel tactics, also take a look at our 1v1 duel guide.

Frequently asked questions

What's the most important bonus against a Lycan?

Claw Defence, because only the Lycan uses claws. Adding Defence against Lycan and Defence against faint on your shield gives you a good foundation.

Does Magic Resistance work against a Lycan?

Not really. The Lycan's four core attack skills are listed as physical attacks on the official wiki, while magic resistance works against magic attacks.

How do I protect myself from Wolf's Breath?

Don't stand bunched up with others in front of the Lycan, and add Defence against faint to your shield. In the official tables, Wolf's Breath has a 20-second cooldown; after using it, the Lycan can't try again until that time is up.

Does every Pvp server have the Lycan?

No. In particular, most servers based on older versions don't have it. When choosing a server, check the class info on its listing page.
