Metin2 Lycan Guide: Skills, Stats and Bonus Recommendations
The Lycan is a melee class that unleashes chains of attacks with its claws and draws power from wolf souls. To play a Metin2 Lycan well, you need to know its stat logic, which differs from the other classes, and its wolf soul skills. This guide covers the skills, stat priorities and bonus recommendations for Pvp. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change the Lycan's balance.
What sets the Lycan apart from other classes?
- A single skill group: While the other classes choose one of two skill groups, the Lycan only has the Instinct group and doesn't pick a specialization.
- Its own weapon: It only uses claws, and no other class can use them.
- Different stat logic: According to the official wiki, the Lycan's attack value comes from Dexterity and Vitality; Strength adds nothing to its base attack value.
- Not on every server: Most Oldschool servers don't have the Lycan. If you want to play one, check the class info on the server's page while browsing Newschool servers.

Lycan skills
| Skill | Type | Effect (official) |
|---|---|---|
| Shred | Physical attack | A powerful blow with a chance of critical hits and bleeding |
| Wolf Pounce | Physical attack | Leaps at the opponent and strikes; up to 5 targets |
| Wolf's Claw | Physical attack | Lowers the opponent's defense and movement speed |
| Wolf's Breath | Physical attack | Strikes with a gust of wind, with a chance to stun; up to 10 targets |
| Crimson Wolf Soul | Buff | Gives attack value and piercing hit chance; drains SP while active |
| Indigo Wolf Soul | Group buff | Raises the group's attack speed and chance to avoid arrows |
Wolf's Breath has a hidden strength: according to the official wiki, if there's another opponent in front of the one you target, the damage dealt doubles. On the official servers, there's also the 9th skill Talon Storm, unlocked at champion level, plus the Boost and Ward skills tied to Wolf's Breath; many Pvp servers don't have these.
Skill priority and gameplay
- Crimson Wolf Soul first: This is the core buff that powers your attacks; never go into a fight without it.
- Open with Wolf's Claw in 1v1: Lower your opponent's defense and slow them down, then pile on damage with Shred and Wolf Pounce.
- Wolf's Breath in crowds: Against packed groups of opponents, it offers both a stun chance and doubled damage.
- Indigo Wolf Soul in groups: On the official servers, its cooldown is 300 seconds and its duration 200 seconds; don't forget to cast it before the fight starts.
The Lycan's strength comes from chain attacks. Stick to your opponent and fill the gaps between skills with regular hits for maximum damage. Against ranged classes, though, you need to close the distance with Wolf Pounce; a Lycan left at range is an easy target.
Stat recommendations
The values on the official wiki show how stats work for the Lycan:
- Dexterity (DEX): Adds directly to attack value; it's also part of the damage formulas of Wolf Pounce, Wolf's Claw and Wolf's Breath, and it raises Evasion.
- Vitality (VIT): Each point gives +40 max HP, and for the Lycan it also adds to attack value.
- Strength (STR): Adds nothing to base attack value, but it's part of the damage formula of every attack skill.
- Intelligence (INT): Raises the attack value from Crimson Wolf Soul and grows your SP pool.
That's why a sensible start is to put Dexterity and Vitality first; together, they raise both your damage and your toughness. Choose your third stat based on your play style: invest in Strength if you're going for skill damage, or in Intelligence to boost your buff and avoid running short on SP. Pvp servers can change stat caps, so check your server's rules as well.
Bonus recommendations
- Average Damage and Skill Damage: Since the Lycan deals damage with both regular hits and skills, both are useful. On the official servers, these two bonuses can only appear on level 30, 75 and 105 weapons and on the level 70 claw, the Hawk Claw; that's why the level 30 Phoenix Lance is valuable early on. We explained how to set your priorities in our bonus priority article.
- Chance for piercing hits: Ignores the opponent's Defense on physical attacks; according to the official wikis, the chance against players is well below the bonus value. Since it doesn't work on magic attacks, it suits the physically damaging Lycan.
- Strong against Half Humans: Increases the damage you deal to players; it can appear on weapons, earrings, bracelets and helmets.
- Defense: Max. HP on armor; Sword, Two-Handed, Dagger or Arrow Defence depending on your opponents' weapons; Magic Resistance against Suras and Shamans.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Lycan choose a skill group?
No. The Lycan's only skill group is Instinct; unlike the other classes, it doesn't choose between two groups.
Which weapon does the Lycan use?
Only claws. On the official servers, the first claw, the Steel Torch, can be bought from the Weapon Shop Dealer; after that come the Phoenix Lance at level 30 and the Iron Claw at level 45.
Should a Lycan put points into Strength?
According to the official wiki, Strength doesn't add to the Lycan's base attack value, but it's part of the damage formulas of its attack skills. If you're not going for skill damage, prioritize Dexterity and Vitality.
Does every Metin2 server have the Lycan?
No. Most Oldschool servers in particular don't have it. When choosing a server, check the class info on its page; you'll find current servers on the best servers list.
