Best Metin2 Starter Weapons and Armor for Every Class
In the first hours of the game, the right weapon and armor decide both how fast you level and how your first Pvp fights go. Some Metin2 starter weapons perform above their level, while some armor gives you defense but steals your speed. This guide covers the first shopping trip for every class, the weapons to aim for and what to watch for when choosing armor, based on official wiki data. Pvp servers can change items, values and drop locations, so check your server's guide too.
First shopping trip: Weapon Shop Dealer and Armour Shop Dealer
On the official servers, the Apprentice Chest that opens when you create your character gives you a first weapon that suits your class. After that, the Weapon Shop Dealer in town sells weapons up to level 36, and the Armour Shop Dealer sells armor up to level 26 plus your first helmet and shield. So you can get through the first levels mostly with gear you buy for Yang. If you're going to be an archer Ninja, you also buy your Wooden Arrows from the Weapon Shop Dealer.
If you're starting on a newly opened server, market prices are high in the first days, and dealer gear is the cheapest option during that time. You can follow the launches on the new servers page.
Starter weapons by class
| Class | From the Weapon Shop Dealer | Target at level 30 |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Swords: Long Sword, Bamboo Sword, Silver Sword, Bastard Sword; two-handed: Spear, Spider Spear, War Scythe, Halberd | Full Moon Sword or the two-handed Red Iron Blade |
| Sura | Long Sword, Bamboo Sword, Silver Sword, Bastard Sword | Full Moon Sword |
| Ninja | Daggers: Amija, Nine Blades, Short Knife, Cat Bite Knife; bows: Long Bow, Battle Bow | Black Leaf Dirk or Hornbow |
| Shaman | Bells: Silver Bell, Jade Bell; fans: Iron Fan, Crane Wing Fan, Aquatic Fan | Autumn Wind Fan or Antique Bell |
| Lycan | Steel Torch | Phoenix Lance |
Why level 30? On the official servers, the Average Damage and Skill Damage bonuses can only appear on level 30, 75 and 105 weapons. On top of that, these weapons offer attack values above their level: according to the official values, a +0 Full Moon Sword has 57-73 attack value, while the level 40 Barbarian Sword at +0 stays at 52-68; among two-handers, the +0 Red Iron Blade (72-109) is ahead of the level 40 Giant Axe (69-103). On the other hand, dealers don't sell them; they drop from certain monsters, and upgrading them costs more Yang.
Two class-specific notes:
- Black Magic Sura: Pick swords with a high magical attack value; by the official values, the Bamboo Sword, Silver Sword and Bastard Sword have a higher magical attack value than physical attack value.
- Shaman: At the same level, fans usually have a higher magical attack value than bells; for a Shaman who deals damage and heals with skills, a fan makes more sense.
Starter armor by class
| Level | Warrior | Sura | Ninja | Shaman | Lycan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 26 | Lion Plate Armour | Ghost Plate Armour | Red Ant Suit | Amorous Clothing | Hurricane Plate Armour |
| 34 | Lethal Plate Armour | Yin and Yang Armour | Ant Lion Suit | Heavenly Clothing | Malachite Plate Armour |
| 42 | Dragon Plate Armour | Mystic Plate Armour | Ninja Suit | Sun Clothing | Rainstorm Plate Armour |
According to the official values, armor of the same level gives the same defense for every class. You can buy the level 26 armor from the Armour Shop Dealer; for the Lycan, though, the dealer only has the level 1 Divine Wind Armour, while the Hurricane Plate Armour drops from monsters and Metins.
Keep two things in mind when choosing armor:
- Movement speed penalty: In the early levels, the higher the armor level, the more your movement speed drops; by the official values, the penalty is 5% at level 26, 8% at level 42 and 10% at level 48.
- Upgrade level: A well-upgraded armor can beat a higher-level one that hasn't been upgraded. By the official values, a +9 level 26 armor gives 92 defense, while a +0 level 48 armor stays at 64. To upgrade safely, check our upgrade guide.
How much should you invest in starter gear?
- Don't overspend on dealer items: Don't waste valuable bonuses and expensive upgrade materials on gear you'll replace in a few levels.
- Invest in your level 30 weapon: Since it can take Average Damage and Skill Damage, it stays with you for a long time.
- Use your stone sockets: The stone sockets on your weapon and armor mean extra bonuses; we explain what each stone does in our spirit stone guide.
- Match your stats: On a magic-focused character, look at magical attack value; on a physical damage dealer, look at attack value. You'll find how stats work in our stat distribution guide.
Frequently asked questions
What's the best starter weapon in Metin2?
On the official servers, level 30 weapons stand out: the Full Moon Sword for Warriors and Suras, the Black Leaf Dirk or Hornbow for Ninjas, the Autumn Wind Fan for Shamans and the Phoenix Lance for Lycans. These weapons can take the Average Damage and Skill Damage bonuses.
Where does the Full Moon Sword drop?
On the official servers, it drops from monsters such as the Bestial Specialist, the Bestial Archer, the Savage Archer, the Savage General and the Cursed Alpha Blue Wolf. On Pvp servers, the drop location and rate can differ; you can browse the servers' description pages from the best servers list.
Is higher-level armor always better?
Not always. In the early levels, higher-level armor gives more base defense but lowers your movement speed more. A well-upgraded lower-level armor can also give more defense than an un-upgraded higher-level one.
Should I add bonuses to my starter gear?
Don't spend valuable bonuses on items you bought from a dealer and will only use for a short time. Save your bonus investment for the level 30 weapon and the main armor you'll use for a long time.
