Metin2 Terms Glossary: Bonuses, Grinding, For VS and More

On your first day on a Metin2 Pvp server, the chat is full of phrases like "P skill", "going +9" and "vs?", and working out what they mean takes time. This Metin2 terms glossary sorts the words players use most into four sections, with a short explanation for each. Definitions of game systems follow the official servers; Pvp servers can change some systems and rates.

Gameplay and grinding terms

  • Grinding: Killing monsters and Metins for a long time to level up or collect Yang or items. You'll hear "grinding Yang" or "grinding Soul Stones"; a "grinding spot" is a map that suits your level.
  • EXP: Experience points. You earn them by killing monsters, finishing quests and opening certain chests, and they level you up.
  • Metin (Metin stone): Stones that fall from the sky, don't move and don't attack. As you hit one, it summons monsters around it; Metins are a main source of valuable items such as Skill Books, Spirit Stones and Soul Stones.
  • Boss: A strong monster that spawns on a map at set intervals or waits at the end of a dungeon. The official wiki also lists Boss as a monster class.
  • Dungeon: A special area with its own quests and boss. Most dungeons require a minimum level or an entry item.
  • Drop: An item that falls from a monster, Metin or boss. The "drop rate" is the chance of an item dropping; on Pvp servers, the server team sets these rates.
  • Pot: A potion. The Red Potion restores your HP and the Blue Potion your SP; "potting" means drinking potions mid-fight.
  • Channel (CH): Separate copies of the game world. On a crowded channel everyone races to the same Metin, so switching to a quiet one speeds up your grinding.

Character and skill terms

  • Skill group: The skill branch you choose at level 5 on the official servers, for example Body or Mental Warrior. The Lycan doesn't make this choice.
  • M, G and P: Skill stages. Every skill goes through Normal, Master (M1–M10), Grand Master (G1–G10) and Perfect Master (P). You reach M with skill points, G with Skill Books and P with Soul Stones. Our skill levels guide explains the process step by step.
  • Stats: Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity and Vitality; players usually just call Vitality "VIT". You spread the status points you earn while leveling across these four.
  • Buff: A temporary boost. The Shaman's Blessing and Attack Up skills are the best-known examples.
  • Rank: Points you earn by killing monsters and staying outside the safe zone. Reading a Soul Stone costs rank points; on the official servers, if you're level 50 or higher with negative rank, you can drop items when you die.

Equipment and bonus terms

  • Upgrading: Raising your gear at the Blacksmith from +0 to +9. If an upgrade fails at the regular Blacksmith, the item is destroyed; a Blessing Scroll or Magic Stone prevents that.
  • Bonuses: The extra stats on your gear. Bonuses 1–5 are rerolled with an Enchant Item, a process players call "enchanting" or "switching". Our bonus guide shows which bonus suits which item.
  • Average Damage: A bonus that boosts the damage of your normal hits. Skill Damage boosts the damage of your skills instead. On the official servers, both appear as regular bonuses only on certain weapons.
  • Half Humans: The monster type that, for example, the Black Wind soldiers belong to. Strong against Half Humans raises your damage against these monsters and against players alike, so it counts as the core Pvp bonus.
  • Sash: Short for Shoulder Sash. The belt is a separate item; don't mix them up.

Server and community terms

  • Pvp server: A Metin2 server run by a team independent of the official publisher; English-speaking players often call these private servers. The "Pvp" in the name refers to player-versus-player combat.
  • Oldschool: Servers that keep the gameplay of Metin2's early years alive, mostly with a 1-99 level range.
  • Newschool: Servers with up-to-date systems such as alchemy, shoulder sashes, pets and costumes.
  • Hardwork / Medium Hardwork: On Hardwork servers, experience and item drop rates are low and progression is deliberately slow. Medium Hardwork strikes a balance between Hardwork and fast servers.
  • VS / For VS: A "VS" is a fight against one opponent, and "to vs someone" means to duel them; many English-speaking players just say 1v1. On For VS servers, your character reaches the top level very quickly and the focus is straight-up Pvp. Our server types guide compares the types; the current lists are on the Oldschool and For VS pages.
  • GM: Game Master. GMs run events and enforce the rules; a real GM will never ask for your password.
  • Item Shop: The shop on the official servers where you pay with Dragon Coins (DC). On Pvp servers, the currency's name, the prices and the items on sale are up to the server team.
