Metin2 Horse Quests: How to Get a Horse and Level It Up
In Metin2, a horse is more than fast transport: as it levels up, it becomes a companion you can fight on and use special skills with. But getting and improving one means a series of Stable Boy quests, each step with its own requirements. Here are the Metin2 horse quests step by step: how to get a horse and how to level it up. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers often simplify the horse system.
The Stable Boy and horse quest basics
- Where's the Stable Boy? In the first and second villages (Yongan, Joan, Pyungmoo, Yayang, Bokjung, Bakra). Every horse quest starts and ends with him.
- Level requirement: On the official servers, you can get and improve a horse from level 25.
- Horse Medal: You need one for each quest between horse levels 1 and 20. It drops from ape-type monsters, especially those in the Ape Dungeons; we covered these dungeons in our early bosses guide.
- Cooldown: A cooldown starts after every improvement quest. A Scroll of Forgetfulness lets you move on to the next quest without waiting.
You don't have to wait until level 25 to ride, either: from level 10, a Horse Riding Ticket gets you a pony from the Stable Boy for 10 minutes. After using a ticket, you wait 1 hour before you can use a new one. You can also get this ticket from the level 18 quest Find the Hairpin; for other rewarding quests, see our quest guide.
How do you get a horse?
- Start the quest. Once you reach level 25, go to the Stable Boy with a Horse Medal in your inventory and take the Horse Picture quest.
- Pass the test. Kill 20 Savage Archers within 30 minutes.
- Wait and collect. When you return to the Stable Boy, a waiting time begins. Once it's over, he hands you the Horse Picture for 100,000 Yang.
- Summon your horse. The Horse Picture summons the Beginner Horse; each summon costs 100 SP.
Summoning doesn't always work: with the Call Horse skill at 0, the chance is 10%. The Horse Taming Manual improves this skill, and at skill level 10 the chance reaches 100%. You mount or dismount a horse from the Stable Boy with Ctrl+H; Ctrl+F feeds it and Ctrl+B sends it back.
Horse types
| Horse level | Horse | Summoning item | Food | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | Beginner Horse | Horse Picture | Hay | Riding only; you can't attack while mounted |
| 11–20 | War Horse | Armed Horse Book | Carrot | You can attack while mounted |
| 21–30 | Military Horse | Military Horse Book | Red Ginseng | Horse skills unlock (1 slot) |
| 31–40 | Mighty War Horse | Golden Horse Book | Red Ginseng (Premium) | 2 skill slots |
How do you level up your horse?
Horse level 1–10: Riding practice
In the Stable Boy's quest, you ride to certain points on the map. At levels 2–6 the quest takes place in the first villages, at 7–8 in the Valley of Seungryong or the Yongbi Desert, and at 9–10 on Mount Sohan or in Doyyumhwan. If you dismount or teleport during the quest, it fails and the cooldown starts again. Don't take these from the Stable Boy in a second village: you'd have to teleport to a first village, so the quest fails from the start.
Horse level 11–20: Fighting on horseback
The Armed Horse Book quest unlocks at level 35: you kill a total of 100 Scorpion Archers or Snake Archers within 30 minutes and, after the cooldown, get the book for 500,000 Yang. You can do it in a group, but the quest owner must be the group leader. At the following levels, you kill certain monsters on horseback, such as 5 Bo at level 12, 10 Elite Orc Generals at level 14 and 20 Fighting Tigers at level 20. Here, too, getting off your horse ruins the quest.
Horse level 21 and beyond
The Military Horse Book quest comes at level 50: you kill 300 Demon Archers in 30 minutes and, after the cooldown, get the book for 1,000,000 Yang. The Military Horse unlocks horse skills, which you improve with the Horse Riding Manual. After that, Fodder drives progress: each piece gives your horse 200–250 experience on average, and once the required experience is reached, a level-up is attempted, which can fail. On the official servers, from horse level 29 on, you also need a champion level.
Take good care of your horse
- Feed it. The lower its level, the more often your horse gets hungry, and a hungry horse that isn't fed in time can die.
- Revive it. A dead horse is revived with the herb that matches its level: Herb of Easy Monkeys for the Beginner Horse, Herb of Normal Monkeys for the War Horse, Herb of Hard Monkeys for the Military Horse and Revigrass for the Mighty War Horse. You take the herb to the Stable Boy to revive your horse.
- Name it. Horse Sugar lets you change your horse's name; the effect lasts 30 days and gives +20 defense while you're mounted.
Horses on Pvp servers
Many Pvp servers speed up the horse system: some shorten cooldowns, some sell horse books in a shop, and some replace horses with a mount system. You'll run into the classic horse quests more often on Oldschool servers. Before joining newly opened servers, check on the server's page how its horse and mount systems work.
