Metin2 GM Event Commands: Announcements, Monsters and Rates

Regular events are one of the most effective ways to keep players in the game on a Metin2 Pvp server. This guide shows you how to run an event from start to finish with Metin2 GM event commands: announcement commands, monster spawns and experience, Yang or item rate events. The commands and value limits were checked against the publicly available Metin2 server source code; they may differ depending on the version of your server files and the changes made to them.

Preparing for the event

  • Plan: Settle the event's type, map, channel, time and reward in advance.
  • Permissions: The main commands in this article (/notice, /mob, /eventflag, /priv_empire) require HIGH_WIZARD in the stock table. Set the level of the GM running the event by the least privilege principle from our GM rights guide.
  • Test: Try the commands and values on a test server first; one extra zero on a rate value can affect the economy for days.
  • Announce ahead: Announce the event on channels such as Discord at least a day in advance.

For a summary of all commands, see our GM commands list.

Announcement commands

/notice Boss event starts at 20:00 on channel 1!
/notice_map The boss will spawn on this map in 5 minutes.
/big_notice The event has started!
  • /notice: Goes to players on all channels.
  • /notice_map: Only goes to players on your current map and channel.
  • /big_notice: Shows large text in the middle of the screen, but in the unmodified source, only the GM who typed the command sees it. Test it on your own files first.

Repeat the announcement 30, 10 and 5 minutes before the start; keep it short, and always include the time and the channel number.

Monster commands

/mob {vnum} 20
/ma {vnum} 10
/mm {vnum}
/get_mob_count
/purge all
  • /mob {vnum} [amount]: Summons monsters next to you; in the source, up to 20 per command.
  • /ma {vnum} [amount]: Summons monsters that attack players on their own.
  • /mm {vnum}: Places the monster at a random spot on the map, which is handy for "find the boss" events.
  • /get_mob_count: Shows the number of monsters and Metin stones on your current map.
  • /purge all: Clears the monsters left around you at the end of the event; it also removes NPCs, so don't use it in town.

The vnum is the monster's number in the server files (mob_proto) and can differ from server to server. Summoning lots of strong monsters at once can strain the core, so summon them in waves.

Rate events: /eventflag

Event flags let you change experience, Yang and item rates server-wide. In the source, these flags default to 100 and work like a percentage multiplier; the value is capped between 0 and 1000.

Flag What does it change? Example
mob_exp Experience from monsters 200 = double
mob_gold Amount of Yang dropped 150 = 50% more
mob_gold_pct Chance of a Yang drop 200 = double
mob_item Chance of an item drop 150 = 50% more
/eventflag mob_exp 200
/geteventflag
/eventflag mob_exp 100
  • Set it back to 100 to end it: If you type 0, monsters give no experience at all.
  • Flags persist: In the source, flag values are saved to the database and restored even after a server restart, so always reset the value when the event ends.
  • Know the cap: In the source, the experience a single monster can give is capped, so very high rates may not make as big a difference as you expect.

Timed bonus: /priv_empire

/priv_empire 0 4 50 2

This example gives all empires 50% extra experience for two hours. The parameters, in order:

  • Empire: 0 means all of them; 1, 2 and 3 a single empire.
  • Type: 1 item drop, 2 Yang drop, 3 chance of a tenfold Yang drop, 4 experience.
  • Value and duration: The value is the percentage added on top of the normal rate (at most 1000); the duration is in hours and can be at most 7 days in the source.

A bonus given to a single empire is announced to players automatically; when you pick 0, that announcement only goes to GMs, so announce it yourself with /notice. Bonuses don't stack: a new bonus for the same empire and type replaces the previous one, while between a bonus for all empires and one for a single empire, the higher one applies. To end one early, send the same empire and type with the value set to 0 (e.g. /priv_empire 0 4 0 0). In the source, these bonuses aren't written to the database, so a full server restart ends them. In the unmodified source, a bug in the line that calculates type 1 leaves that bonus without effect; for an item event, use the mob_item flag instead, or test first.

Helper commands for tournaments and the OX Competition

  • /duel {character1} {character2} [sets] [minutes]: Puts two players into a duel in the arena; in the source, there are at most 5 sets and the duration is at least 5 minutes.
  • /end_duel {character} and /end_all_duel: End an ongoing duel or all duels.
  • /get_oxevent_att and /log_oxevent: Show the number of participants left in the OX Competition and log the ones still standing. The competition itself is run by the quest script in the server files.

We cover the player side of OX and seasonal events in our events guide.

Post-event checklist

  1. Rates: Set the flags back to 100 and check them with /geteventflag.
  2. Bonuses: Turn off any /priv_empire bonuses that haven't expired by setting their value to 0.
  3. Cleanup: Clear leftover monsters with /purge and count them with /get_mob_count.
  4. Rewards: Announce the winners and keep a record of the reward handout.

You can also share your big events in the Server Showcases category of our forum. Don't forget to invite players to vote at the end of the event; the best servers ranking is built only from player votes.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use /eventflag or /priv_empire for an experience event?

/eventflag mob_exp applies server-wide until you turn it off. /priv_empire is time-limited and switches itself off, which makes it safer for short events. In the source, if both are active at the same time, their effects are applied together.

Why won't /mob spawn more than 20 monsters?

In the source, the number of monsters one command can summon is capped at 20. For more, repeat the command in waves.

The event is over, but experience is still high. Why?

Flag values are saved to the database, so they stay until you reset them. Check with /geteventflag and set mob_exp back to 100.

Why didn't my announcement reach some players?

/notice_map only goes to players on your current map and channel. Use /notice to reach everyone.
