Metin2 Costume and Hairstyle Bonuses: How They Affect Pvp
At first glance, costumes are just looks; with the right bonuses, though, your costume, hairstyle and weapon skin can give your character nine extra bonuses. Between two players with similar gear, these bonuses are sometimes exactly what makes the difference. This guide covers the costume bonus system on the official servers, the bonuses each piece can roll and which Metin2 costume bonuses pay off in Pvp. Pvp servers can change the costume system and bonus values.
How do costume bonuses work?
On the official servers, three pieces can take bonuses: the armor costume, the hairstyle and the weapon skin. The basic rules are:
- Not every costume takes bonuses: Only costumes, hairstyles and weapon skins with "+" or "(Bonus)" in their name can get bonuses.
- Up to 3 bonuses: Each piece carries at most 3 bonuses. With all three pieces full, that's 9 bonuses in total.
- Transform Costume: Removes the costume's bonuses and adds 1-3 random new ones.
- Enchant Costume: Swaps the bonuses for new ones but doesn't change how many there are. Both items are sold by the General Store Saleswoman.
- Costume Bonus Transfer: Moves one costume's bonuses to another costume through Theowahdan; the costume giving up its bonuses is destroyed.
- Set bonus: When you wear pieces of the same set together, an extra set bonus kicks in. While it's active, its icon shows up among your status icons.
Bonuses by piece
Each bonus has several value tiers; in the table, we've listed the bonuses that stand out for Pvp at their highest values:
| Piece | Bonuses that stand out for Pvp |
|---|---|
| Armor costume | Attack value (+50), weapon defenses (15%), Magic Resistance (15%), max HP (+2,000), Chance to reflect close combat hits (10%), "Damage will be absorbed by HP" (10%) |
| Hairstyle | Strong against Half Humans (10%), elemental resistances and Magic Resistance (15%), attack speed (8%), poisoning and bleeding attack (8%), Chance to avoid arrows (15%) |
| Weapon skin | Strong against Half Humans (10%), weapon defenses (15%), max HP (+2,000), stats (+12), attack speed (8%), critical and piercing hits (10%), faint and slowing chance (8%) |
The weapon skin has the widest bonus pool; it can also roll movement speed, casting speed, EXP and Yang bonuses. Because the pool is so wide, landing a Pvp-friendly bonus on a weapon skin may take more attempts.
The effect on Pvp: which bonuses should you pick?
- For offense: Look for attack value on your armor costume and Strong against Half Humans on your hairstyle and weapon skin. According to the official wiki, Strong against Half Humans also raises the damage you deal to players.
- For defense: Pick the defense against the weapon type you face most on your server; for example, Claw Defence against Lycans. Magic Resistance helps against opponents who hit with magic, such as Shamans, and Chance to avoid arrows against archers; Bell and Fan Defence only reduce a Shaman's normal hits and have no effect on their magic skills.
- For speed: Attack speed on your hairstyle and weapon skin, together with the speed bonuses on your jewelry and mount, changes the pace of a fight.
- 3 bonuses first, then enchant: Since Transform Costume rerolls the number of bonuses between 1 and 3, switch to Enchant Costume once you've reached 3. That way you refresh your bonuses while keeping the count.
- Transfer from timed costumes: If a costume with good bonuses is about to expire, move its bonuses to your new costume with a Costume Bonus Transfer.

Costumes on Pvp servers
On Pvp servers, the costume system can differ from the official one: some servers turn costume bonuses off, others offer much higher values or costumes with ready-made bonuses. If costumes can only be bought in the item shop and give very strong bonuses, that directly affects the server's economy and Pvp balance. We discuss this in detail in our item shop and fair economy article.
