Metin2 Shoulder Sash Guide: Absorption Rate, Combining, Transfer

The Shoulder Sash absorbs a set percentage of a weapon's or armor's bonuses and adds it to your character. Since it works on top of the weapon and armor you're wearing, the right sash gives your character an extra layer of bonuses. This Metin2 shoulder sash guide covers absorption rates, combining sashes, absorbing bonuses and how bonuses are moved to another sash. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change the sash system.

What is the Shoulder Sash?

  • A separate piece of equipment: You equip the sash in the window that opens with the costume button in your inventory. Don't confuse it with the belt, which opens an extra inventory compartment.
  • No requirements: No level or gender requirement; you can wear a sash from level 1.
  • No expiry: A sash has no time limit.
  • Theowahdan: Combining, bonus absorption and transfers are all handled by Theowahdan in Yongan, Joan, Pyungmoo, Cape Dragon Fire and the Dong Gwang Plain.
  • Trading: On the official servers, only custom sashes can be traded or sold in a private shop.

How do you get a sash?

  • The quest "A special cloth": In this repeatable level 40 quest from Theowahdan, you collect 40 Fine Cloth for a Master Sash (basic). Each piece of cloth takes 3 hours of online time; Fine Cloth also comes from some boss chests.
  • Item Shop: On the official servers, the Lord Sash (basic) is sold in the Item Shop.
  • Chests: The Sash Box gives you a random sash. Sashes can also come from some dungeon chests, such as Hydra's Chest.
  • Events: Sashes such as the Anniversary Sash and the Heart Sash arrive during events.

Absorption rate and sash grades

A sash's grade decides how much of an item's bonuses it absorbs:

Grade Absorption rate How do you get it?
Basic 1% From a quest, the Item Shop, a chest or an event
Fine 5% 2 basic sashes + 100,000 Yang
Noble 10% 2 fine sashes + 200,000 Yang
Custom 11-25% 2 noble sashes + 300,000 Yang

A custom sash's absorption rate isn't fixed: it's set when the sash is made and is at least 11%. If the rate is low, you can try to raise it by combining two custom sashes for 1,000,000 Yang; on success, it rises by up to 5 points and can reach 25% at most. Sashes with an absorption rate of 19% or higher shine.

How do you combine sashes?

  1. Talk to Theowahdan and choose the Combination option.
  2. Put the sash you want to improve in the top slot (Sash 1) and a second sash of the same grade in the bottom slot (Sash 2).
  3. If the combination succeeds, the sash in the bottom slot disappears, and the top one moves up a grade or its absorption rate increases.
  4. If it fails, the sash in the bottom slot still disappears, and the top one stays as it was.

The top sash is never destroyed, and the bonuses absorbed into it stay with it. When its grade goes up, the bonuses are recalculated at the new absorption rate. So always put your sash with bonuses in the top slot; the bottom one is gone either way.

Bonus absorption: taking bonuses from weapons and armor

In Theowahdan's bonus absorption window, you put your sash in the left slot and a weapon or armor in the right slot. You see the result in the window before you go ahead.

  • Guaranteed success: Absorption always succeeds, but the absorbed item is destroyed and can't be recovered.
  • Calculation: The item's bonuses are multiplied by the sash's absorption rate and the result is rounded down; values below 1 are shown as 1%. For example, a sash with 22% absorption carries a 10% bonus over as 2%.
  • Base values: Not only the bonuses but also base values, such as a weapon's attack value or an armor's defense, carry over at the same rate. That's why an item with high attack value or defense passes more to the sash.
  • Negative bonuses: Bonuses with negative values on the item don't carry over to the sash.
  • One item only: You can't absorb a second item into a sash that already has bonuses. To change them, first remove the current bonuses with a Certificate of Reversal.

When you choose the item to absorb, our bonus guide helps you decide which bonuses are worth having.

Transfer: moving bonuses to another sash

With the Shoulder Sash Transfer item, you can move a sash's bonuses to another sash. Theowahdan handles this too, and both sashes must have the same grade and absorption rate. A transfer has three possible results:

  • Full success: The bonuses are transferred without any problem, and the sash that gave them up is destroyed.
  • Partial success: The bonuses are transferred, but the target sash loses 1% absorption; the sash that gave them up is destroyed here too.
  • Failure: The bonuses aren't transferred, and one of the two sashes loses 1% absorption; neither sash is destroyed.

So you only keep the sash that gives up its bonuses if the transfer fails. In that respect, it works like the costume bonus transfer, where the costume that gives up its bonuses is destroyed.

The Shoulder Sash on Pvp servers

The sash system changes a lot on Pvp servers: some set absorption rates or combination costs differently, and others sell sashes in their own shop. On servers based on older versions, the system may not exist at all. If you're after the sash system, take a look at newschool servers, and ask other players about your server's sash rules in the forum.

Frequently asked questions

At what level can you wear a Shoulder Sash?

On the official servers, there's no level requirement; you can wear a sash from level 1. Theowahdan's sash quest, however, unlocks at level 40.

Can you get back a weapon you absorbed into a sash?

No. The absorbed weapon or armor is destroyed. The Certificate of Reversal only removes the bonuses on the sash; it doesn't bring the item back.

Is the sash destroyed if a sash transfer fails?

No. When a transfer fails, both sashes stay: the bonuses aren't transferred and one of the sashes loses 1% absorption. On a full or partial success, however, the sash that gave up its bonuses is destroyed; on a partial success the target sash also loses 1% absorption.

Can you sell a Shoulder Sash?

On the official servers, only custom sashes can be traded or sold in a private shop. Basic, fine and noble sashes can't be traded.
