Metin2 Belt System Guide: Belt Inventory and Upgrades
In Metin2, the belt is worn at the waist and opens an extra compartment in your inventory, officially called the belt inventory. Players sometimes mix up the belt and the sash, but the bonus-absorbing Shoulder Sash is a completely different piece of equipment. This guide covers how the belt inventory works, how many slots each belt unlocks and how belts are crafted and upgraded, and finally how the Shoulder Sash differs. The information is based on the official servers; the system may differ on Pvp servers.
What does a belt do?
- Everyone can wear one: Warriors, Ninjas, Suras, Shamans and Lycans can all use belts.
- Base bonus: Every belt has a base bonus that grows with its upgrade level. For example, the Linen Belt's Max. HP bonus is 50 at +0 and rises to 500 at +9.
- Stone sockets: Sockets on the belt are unlocked with Diamonds, and a Red Flame Stone placed in an unlocked socket strengthens the belt's base bonus. The Red Flame Stone is crafted by Jae-Seon Kim at Cape Dragon Fire.
How does the belt inventory work?
Equipping a belt opens a hidden compartment in your inventory, which you reach with the belt button in the inventory window. The number of unlocked slots depends on the belt's type and upgrade level.
- It's storage space: On the official servers, items here are stored as if they weren't in your inventory. To use one, take it out first; items such as dungeon tickets don't work from the compartment.
- The belt gets locked: You can't remove or change your belt while there are items in the belt inventory. Empty it before taking your belt to be upgraded.
- Server differences: Since Pvp servers use different game versions, the compartment may work differently. Test on your own server whether you can use potions from it, or ask other players in the forum.
Belt types and the slots they unlock
| Belt | Level | Base bonus | Slots at +9 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linen Belt | 50 | Max. HP | 6 |
| Leather Belt | 70 | Max. SP | 6 |
| Magnificent Belt | 85 | Chance to drop double Yang | 9 |
| Belt of Wisdom | 97 | Chance for EXP bonus | 9 |
| Souls Belt | 100 | Strength against Monsters | 12 |
| King's Belt | 103 | Defence against Warrior | 16 |
| Shadow Belt | 103 | Defence against Ninja | 16 |
| Rune Belt | 103 | Defence against Sura | 16 |
| Great Bear Belt | 103 | Defence against Shaman | 16 |
| Tourmaline Belt | 103 | Defence against Lycan | 16 |
| Titanium Belt | 120 | Defence | 30 |
In Pvp, the level 103 belts stand out because they give defense against a specific class; pick the one against the class you fight most. Since the Titanium Belt requires level 120, you'll mostly come across it on 1-120 servers.
How do you get a belt?
- Chests: On the official servers, the first five belts can come from Razador's Chest, Nemere's Chest and Jotun Thrym's Chest. The Titanium Belt comes from Sung Ma's Treasure Chest.
- Yu-Hwan: Found in Yayang, Bokjung, Bakra and Cape Dragon Fire; crafts the first four belts. For a Linen Belt, he asks for 10 Copper, 2 White Pearls, 30 Energy Fragments and 10,000 Yang, with a 50% success chance. The higher belts require Silver, Gold, White Gold and Blue Pearls; the chance drops to 20% for the Belt of Wisdom.
- Jae-Seon Kim: Crafts the Souls Belt and the level 103 belts with a 10% success chance.
- Master Chi: Crafts the Titanium Belt in the Dong Gwang Plain.
Most of these materials come from mining and fishing, while the Alchemist gives you Energy Fragments for breaking down items such as weapons or armor of level 35 and above. We cover these professions in our Yang farming guide.
Upgrading a belt: from +0 to +9
Like other equipment, belts can be upgraded up to +9, and every step costs Yang and materials. On a Linen Belt, +1 costs 1,000 Yang while +9 costs 120,000 Yang; the higher steps also require materials such as Spider Eyes, Orc Teeth and Clams.
The number of slots doesn't go up with every level, only at certain thresholds. The Linen Belt unlocks 1 slot at +1, 2 at +5, 4 at +7 and 6 at +9, so the real jump comes in the last steps. Since a failed upgrade at the regular Blacksmith destroys the item, weigh the risk before upgrading an expensive belt. Our upgrade guide explains how upgrading works in detail.
Don't confuse it with the Shoulder Sash
The Shoulder Sash is a separate system. It has no level or gender requirement, and it takes on the bonuses of a weapon or armor according to its absorption rate. The absorption rate is 1% for basic, 5% for fine and 10% for noble sashes, and between 11-25% for custom ones. Negative bonuses don't carry over to the sash. In short, a belt gives you an extra compartment and a base bonus, while the Shoulder Sash absorbs the bonuses of another item.
