Metin2 Mental Warrior Guide: Tanky Pvp Build and Gear

The Mental Warrior is the skill group for players who want to be the last one standing on the battlefield. With high defense, a buff that keeps you from being knocked down and skills that stun opponents, it stays on its feet for a long time in 1v1 duels and on the front line of guild wars alike. This Metin2 Mental Warrior guide walks you through a tanky Pvp build step by step: skill order, stat distribution, bonuses and gear choices.

Mental Warrior skills

The information is based on the skill pages of the official wiki:

Skill What does it do? Note
Strong Body Raises your defense; from Grand Master on, it also keeps you from being knocked down. Lowers movement speed somewhat; scales with Vitality.
Spirit Strike Deals a powerful blow to the enemies in front of you. Up to 4 targets; one of the Mental group's highest-damage skills.
Bash Hits several enemies along a line in front of you. Up to 7 targets.
Stump Scatters several enemies. Has a chance to stun; up to 10 targets.
Sword Strike Attacks the target from a distance. Stuns the character you target.
Sword Orb Strikes your sword into the ground and spreads damage around you. Long cooldown.

According to official data, Sword Strike always stuns the character you target; if your opponent has Defence against faint, the chance drops considerably. The Ward, Boost and Earthquake skills, added later on the official servers, aren't available on every Pvp server.

Skill order

The official wiki's Mental Warrior guide suggests this order:

  1. Strong Body: In the guide's words, it's the skill that makes a Mental Warrior a Mental Warrior; it should be your first Master.
  2. Spirit Strike: Your highest-damage skill, and useful in Pvp too.
  3. Bash: Your second strong source of damage.
  4. Stump: Hits the enemies around you and can interrupt your opponent's attack with its stun chance.
  5. Sword Strike: Low damage, but it follows its target and stuns.

The guide disagrees with suggestions that put Sword Strike near the top; because of its low damage, it recommends leaving it as your last Master and using it with a single point for the stun until then. You can put your remaining points into Sword Orb.

Stat distribution

According to the official wiki, for a Mental Warrior Vitality raises both your defense and the effect of Strong Body. Your attack skills, on the other hand, scale with Strength.

  • Vitality (VIT): Your top priority; each point raises max HP by 40 and also adds defense.
  • Strength (STR): The main stat for Spirit Strike, Bash and your other attack skills.
  • Dexterity (DEX): Adds to the damage of Stump, Sword Strike and Sword Orb and raises your evasion.
  • Intelligence (INT): Does little for a Warrior.

The wiki guide recommends keeping Vitality at roughly twice your Strength early on, and at higher levels maxing out Vitality and Strength and putting the rest into Dexterity. It also notes that there's no "perfect" distribution for Pvp; you'll set the balance between Vitality and Strength yourself, based on your gear.

Bonuses for a tanky Pvp build

We cover bonuses in detail in our bonus priority article. The recommendations are based on the official servers' bonus lists; Pvp servers can change these lists.

Defense first

  • Max. HP: Can appear on armor, bracelets, necklaces and shoes; the foundation of your toughness.
  • Weapon type defenses: Sword, Two-Handed, Dagger, Arrow, Bell, Fan and Claw Defence reduce damage from non-magical attacks. Pick them based on the classes you meet most often.
  • Magic Resistance: Protects against Sura and Shaman spells; can appear on armor, helmets and bracelets.
  • Defence against faint and slowing: These appear on shields. Since Strong Body already lowers your movement speed, protecting yourself against slows matters even more.
  • Close-combat block and reflect: The shield's Chance to block a close-combat attack can stop a melee attack completely, while Chance to reflect close combat hits punishes whoever hits you.

Attack

  • Skill Damage: According to the wiki guide, a Mental Warrior's power comes from skills, not regular hits. On the official servers, not every weapon has this bonus; it appears on certain items such as level 30, 75 and 105 weapons.
  • Casting speed: The guide stresses that a Mental Warrior relies heavily on bonuses that cut cooldowns; it can appear on your weapon and armor.
  • Strong against Half Humans: Increases the damage you deal to players.

Gear

  • Weapon: According to the official wiki, Mental Warriors usually get the best results with two-handed weapons. The wiki guide recommends the Partisan for Pvp after level 65.
  • Weapon by opponent: One note in the guide is interesting: if your opponent has high Two-Handed Defence, switching to a one-handed sword can increase your damage.
  • Upgrade levels: The upgrade level of your armor and shield translates directly into toughness. To reduce the risk, check our upgrade guide.
  • Adapt to your Pvp server: Weapon and armor values can vary from server to server; always check the server's item list.

Frequently asked questions

What's the most important stat for a Mental Warrior?

Vitality. It raises both your defense and the effect of Strong Body. Since your attack skills scale with Strength, put Strength second.

Is the Mental Warrior weak in Pvp?

Its burst damage is lower than the Body Warrior's, but it lasts in long fights and controls opponents with its stunning skills. On the front line of guild wars, it's indispensable.

Why is Strong Body so important?

It raises your defense and, from Grand Master on, keeps you from being knocked down, which wastes much of your opponents' combos. That's why the official wiki guide recommends it as your first Master.

How important is the shield in a tanky build?

According to the official servers' bonus lists, Defence against faint and slowing and the Chance to block a close-combat attack appear on shields. That's why in a tanky build, your shield's bonuses matter at least as much as your armor's.
