10 Common Metin2 Pvp Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Most duels lost in Metin2 Pvp aren't down to bad luck but to the same mistakes made over and over. The good news: almost all of them can be fixed with a bit of knowledge and the right habits. Here are the 10 most common Metin2 Pvp mistakes and how to fix them. Skill and bonus details are based on the official servers; since Pvp servers can change these values, check your own server's rules too.

Mistakes in preparation

1. Not preparing for stuns

Mistake: Facing a Warrior without any protection. On the official servers, the Warrior's Dash skill can stun the character it targets, and a stunned character can't move, attack or use skills.

Fix: Look for the Defence against faint bonus on your shield. According to the official wiki, it considerably lowers the chance of Dash stunning you. Defence against slowing, which can also appear on shields, does the same job against slows.

2. Choosing bonuses without knowing what they do

Mistake: Picking a bonus by its name. For example, Resistance against critical hits doesn't reduce the damage of the critical hits you take; it only lowers their chance of happening.

Fix: Learn what each bonus affects. Strong against Half Humans increases the damage you deal to players, while Resistance to Half Humans reduces the damage you take from players. Average Damage boosts regular hits, Skill Damage boosts skills.

3. Spending every bonus on attack

Mistake: Stacking only damage bonuses and forgetting defense. If you go down to your opponent's first combo, your high damage is useless.

Fix: Build a defensive base alongside your attack bonuses:

  • Class defense: Bonuses such as Defence against Warrior reduce the damage you take from that class.
  • Weapon type defense: Choose Sword, Two-Handed, Dagger, Arrow, Bell, Fan and Claw Defence based on your opponent's weapon.
  • HP pool: The Max. HP bonus gives you room for mistakes.

We summarized how each class plays in our class guide.

Mistakes during the fight

4. Forgetting the price of buffs

Mistake: Keeping every buff on in every situation. According to the official wiki, the Warrior's Berserk raises attack and movement speed but also increases the melee and arrow damage you take. Strong Body raises defense but lowers movement speed.

Fix: Weigh the upside and the downside of a buff together. Turn on Berserk when you're applying pressure; using it against an archer you can't close in on only makes you more fragile.

5. Ignoring SP

Mistake: Watching only your HP bar and noticing in the middle of a fight that your SP has run out.

Fix: Keep Blue Potions on your quickslot bar too and watch your SP bar. Be careful if your opponent has the Chance to rob SP bonus: with regular hits (arrows included), it has a certain chance to reduce your SP.

6. Turning your back on your opponent

Mistake: Showing your back to a Ninja while drinking a potion or running away. On the official servers, the Ninja's Ambush skill deals extra damage when used from behind.

Fix: Against a Blade-Fight Ninja, keep facing them and don't let them circle around you.

7. Chasing a fleeing opponent blindly

Mistake: Running after an opponent with low HP to the other end of the map. A fleeing player may be luring you to their friends, and the Archery Ninja's Feather Walk skill greatly increases movement speed for a short time.

Fix: Set a limit on how far you chase. If your opponent pulls back to recover, refresh your own buffs and wait, ready.

Mistakes in group fights and tournaments

8. Bunching up and spreading your damage

Mistake: Gathering at the same spot as a team, with everyone hitting a different opponent. On the official servers, the Warrior's Sword Spin and the Sura's Dragon Swirl can hit up to 12 opponents.

Fix: Keep some distance from your teammates and focus your damage on a single target. Taking out the healer or the most fragile damage dealer first beats scattered hits.

9. Burning all your buffs at once

Mistake: Popping every buff and potion in the first second against a Sura. The Weaponry Sura's Dispel skill has a chance to remove an opponent's positive effects; according to the official wiki, the Green Potion's effect is lost this way too.

Fix: Use your buffs in stages, and save the ones with short cooldowns for after Dispel.

10. Entering a match without knowing the rules

Mistake: Joining a tournament or arena without reading the rules. For example, Red and Blue Potions can't be used on the official servers' Arena map.

Fix: Learn the potion, item and level rules before the match. Pvp servers set these rules themselves; if you're not sure, check the server's announcements or the discussions on our forum.

Frequently asked questions

What's the most common mistake in Metin2 Pvp?

One of the most common is going into a fight without taking the opponent's class into account. Knowing your opponent's tools, such as stuns, poison or dispels, decides which bonuses and buffs you should use.

Does Defence against faint really work?

On the official servers, it considerably lowers the chance of the Warrior's Dash stunning you. Since Pvp servers can change skill values, testing it on your own server is the best approach.

Does Resistance against critical hits reduce critical damage?

No. According to the official wiki, this bonus doesn't reduce the damage of a critical hit, only its chance of happening.

What's the fastest way to fix these mistakes?

Duel your guild mates across different classes and focus on one mistake after each match. Turning one fix into a habit every week gives longer-lasting results than trying everything at once.
