Metin2 Beginner Guide: 20 Golden Rules for New Players
Starting out in Metin2 is exciting but also a little confusing: dozens of systems, hundreds of items and monsters waiting around every corner. Small mistakes in your first days can turn into big losses you only notice weeks later. The 20 rules below help you get off to a solid start on a new Pvp server.
Before you start
1. Choose your server wisely. Pace, level range and community directly affect how much fun you have. Before you decide, go through our server checklist.
2. Pick a class that matches your play style. Don't go for the popular class; go for the one you'll enjoy. You'll find the strengths and weaknesses of every class in our class guide.
3. Use a different password on every server. Don't let a security problem on one server put your other accounts at risk.
4. Only download the client from the server's own website. "Speed-boosted clients" or "patch" files from other sources are the quickest way to get your account stolen.
Your first days
5. Follow the quests. Early quests give you both experience and useful items. Check your quest window often.
6. Grind on a map that suits your level. Where the monsters are too strong you waste time, and where they're too weak you get no experience.
7. Destroy Metin stones. Metin stones drop both experience and valuable items. Try not to skip the ones you see on the map.
8. Form a group. Grinding in a group is both safer and faster. Once you start running dungeons, you'll see how valuable a good group is.
9. Don't spend skill and status points without a plan. Spending points at random can weaken your character later on. Learn the usual build for your class before you spend anything.
10. Never run out of potions. Red and Blue Potions get you out of many tough spots. Check your stock before you head out to grind.
Economy and trading
11. Don't spend your Yang on day one. You'll want to buy everything at first, but the Yang you save in your first days turns into far more valuable items later.
12. Research the market. Before you sell or buy an item, compare the prices of several sellers. Rushed deals end up costing you.
13. Check the trade window twice. Before you confirm, look closely at the item and the amount the other player has put in. Scammers may try to swap items at the last second.
14. Don't rush to upgrade your valuable items. If an upgrade at the Blacksmith fails, the item can be destroyed. Before upgrading valuable gear, find out which upgrade items protect it.
Community and Pvp
15. Join a guild. Guild members become your biggest support in dungeons, in the economy and in Pvp. An active, helpful guild makes the game much more enjoyable.
16. Don't jump into Pvp before you're ready. Fights you enter without good enough gear and skills only hurt your morale. For duel tactics, see our Pvp guide.
17. Follow the rules. Cheating, insults and scamming get your account banned. Fair play matters for the server's future and for yours.
18. Keep up with announcements and Discord. Events, maintenance and updates are usually announced on Discord first. You don't want to miss a double EXP event.
19. Vote for your server. Voting helps your server climb the lists and bring in new players. Many servers also give in-game rewards to players who vote.
20. Don't forget to take breaks. Metin2 is a long game. Short breaks keep you focused and keep the game fun.
