Metin2 Grotto of Exile Guide: Getting Ready for the Blue Dragon

The road to the Blue Dragon runs through the Grotto of Exile. Before you face Beran-Setaou, you collect Blood Stones and Twisted Keys in this cave of ice and lightning and cut down its captains and generals. This guide covers the Metin2 Grotto of Exile's entrance, floors and bosses and your prep for the dragon. The information follows the official servers; Pvp servers can change the entrances, bosses and rewards.

How do you enter the Grotto of Exile?

  • Entrance: Koe-Pung in the Valley of Seungryong takes you into the grotto; each entry uses up one Blood Stone.
  • Level: According to the official English wiki, you can enter the grotto from level 75.
  • Layout: The grotto has two floors; the Dragon's Temple is reached from the second.
  • Teleporting: On the first floor, the Scroll of the Location and the Wedding Ring can't be used; on the second floor, the Teleportation Ring joins that list.
  • Exit: According to the official English wiki, you leave the grotto by talking to Heuk-Young.

Where do you get Blood Stones?

Blood Stones drop from Beran-Setaou, the Generals and the Mighty Ice Witch, and they can also come from chests such as Beran-Setaou's Chest and the Exile Reward Chest. The level 75 quest In the Grotto from Seon-Hae also rewards one. Blood Stones can be handed over in the trade window and put in the storeroom; only Blood Stones bought in the Item Shop can't be traded. Still, every entry uses up a stone, so make sure everyone in the group has enough.

First floor: ice monsters and the Mighty Ice Witch

On the first floor, Underworld Ice monsters with the ice element roam alongside the lightning-element Setaou Fighter, Setaou Hunter and Setaou Mystic. There are no Metin stones on this map. According to the English wiki, the passage to the second floor is in the lower right corner of the map.

This floor's boss is the Mighty Ice Witch. The level 89 witch appears at random spots on the map every 8 hours and summons an Underworld Ice Golem. She's aggressive and notices you as you pass, so don't get caught unprepared. She can drop shields, armor, jewelry, a Treasure Scroll (Tier C) and Blood Stones.

Second floor: captains and generals

The second floor holds stronger monsters such as the Setaou Soldier, Setaou Archer, Setaou Magistrate and Setaou Commander. The floor's real targets, though, are the captain and general pairs:

Boss Spawn When defeated
Captain Huashin (level 88) Every 2 hours, at a random spot General Huashin (level 90) appears
Captain Yonghan (level 93) Every 3 hours General Yonghan (level 95) appears

The captains summon Setaou Leaders, and the generals summon Setaou Commanders. All of them hit twice as hard once their HP runs low. The general appears the moment the captain dies, so plan both as one long fight; if half your potions are gone, don't start on the captain.

For the Blue Dragon, the generals are your real target. They can drop shields, Heaven's Tear jewelry, Ecstasy Shoes and Phoenix Shoes, Soul Stones, Blood Stones and, most importantly, the Twisted Key. The level 90 General Huashin can also drop armor and the Beran-Setaou Soul Stone.

The Twisted Key plan

You can enter the Dragon's Temple once a day with 5 Twisted Keys. The key drops from the Generals and can also come from the Exile Reward Chest. To collect keys and the Blood Stones you need for entry efficiently:

  • Share the timers: Post the kill times of the 2-hour and 3-hour captains in the group chat.
  • Add the witch to your route: The first-floor Mighty Ice Witch also drops Blood Stones, so track her spawn time on your way down.
  • Set a key order: Agree up front on who collects the keys. For sharing rules, take a look at our dungeon group guide.

The other five daily entries use the Dragon's Temple Entry sold in the Item Shop.

Prep list before the Blue Dragon

The Ghost of a Sura on the second floor of the grotto teleports you to the Dragon's Temple. Check the following before you talk to him:

  1. Group: At least 2 and at most 8 players; everyone entering must be at least level 75.
  2. Entry item: 5 Twisted Keys or a Dragon's Temple Entry.
  3. Blue potions: Beran-Setaou burns 100 SP per hit, so don't carry fewer blue potions than red ones.
  4. Metin team: Pick two or three players to break the 8 Metins in the room every 2 minutes 30 seconds.
  5. Time: You have 60 minutes in the room, so don't waste time in the grotto and walk in worn out.

We cover the fight itself, the Metin types and the dragon's drops in detail in our Blue Dragon guide.

The Grotto of Exile on Pvp servers

On Pvp servers, the Blood Stone requirement may be removed, the captains' spawn times shortened or the Twisted Key's drop chance changed. On some servers, the grotto becomes one of the game's main grinding spots. Check the server's guide before you go in. You'll find servers where the Blue Dragon is endgame content among level 1-99 servers, and for a fresh start, look at the new servers list.
