Metin2 Alchemy Guide: Dragon Stones, Grades and Combinations
In Metin2, alchemy, or Dragon Stone Alchemy, is a system that gives your character extra bonuses independent of your gear. Pick the right dragon stones and upgrade them, and you'll feel a clear boost in power both in Pvp and while grinding. This Metin2 alchemy guide covers the seven dragon stones, the grading system and combinations such as the set bonus. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change alchemy or leave it out entirely.
How do you get started with alchemy?
- Alchemy inventory: Dragon stones don't appear in your regular inventory; you open the alchemy window with the O key.
- Alchemist: Found in Yongan, Joan, Pyungmoo, the Bazaar, Cape Dragon Fire and Dong Gwang Plain. The alchemy success chance is the same with the Alchemist on every map.
- Daily quest: From level 30, you get the Power of the Dragon Eye quest from the Alchemist. While it's active, monsters in your level range drop Dragon Stone Shards, and every 10 shards make one Cor Draconis (Rough). In the quest you collect at most 50 shards, that is, 5 Cor Draconis.
- Cor Draconis (Rough): When you open it, it gives a random dragon stone of the Rough class; the Amethyst doesn't come from this box.
- Level 110 and up: An additional daily quest unlocks, and you can choose Cor Draconis or Cor Daemonis as the reward.
The seven dragon stones and their bonuses
| Stone | Key bonuses |
|---|---|
| Dragon Diamond | Intelligence, Ice Resistance, Skill Damage, Magical Attack Value, Magical Defense |
| Dragon Ruby | Strength, Fire Resistance, Average Damage, Attack Value, Defense |
| Dragon Jade | Max. SP, Wind Resistance, Max. HP, HP Regeneration |
| Dragon Sapphire | Dexterity, Earth Resistance, Strong against (class), Defense chance against (class) attacks |
| Dragon Garnet | Max. HP, Lightning Resistance, Max. SP, SP Regeneration |
| Dragon Onyx | Vitality, Resistance against Darkness, Resistance against critical and piercing hits, Chance to block a close-combat attack |
| Dragon Amethyst | Strong against Devil, Strong against Metin Stones |
Every stone has fixed bonuses first; as the stone's class rises, variable bonuses are added.
Grades: class, clarity and stone level
- Class: Rough, Cut, Rare, Antique, Legendary and Mythic. The higher the class, the more bonuses the stone can carry.
- Clarity: Matt, Clear, Flawless, Brilliant and Excellent. The higher the clarity, the stronger the bonuses.
- Stone level: Raised with Green, Blue and Pink Dragon Beans, it boosts the stone's effect even further.
You upgrade in the refinement window you open by talking to the Alchemist. On the official servers, raising the class takes two stones of the same class, and raising the clarity takes two stones of the same clarity; if the process fails, you are left with a single stone of the same class or clarity instead of two. If a stone level upgrade fails, the level can drop by one or stay the same. So spend your beans first on the stones you'll use for a long time.
Combinations: the set bonus and two pages
Set bonus: When you equip and activate 6 stones of the same class, you get the set bonus. Clarity has no effect on the set bonus at all; what matters is that the stones share the same class. So all six need to be, for example, Legendary or Mythic. The set bonus gives each stone extra bonuses that fit its type.
Two pages: The alchemy window has two pages, and only one can be active at a time; switching one on automatically switches the other off. The default shortcuts are Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V. That way you can dedicate one page to Pvp and the other to grinding:
- Pvp page: The Sapphire's class-based Strong against and Defense chance bonuses, plus the Onyx's resistance against critical and piercing hits, come first. On a character who fights with regular hits, the Ruby stands out; on one who relies on skills, the Diamond.
- Grinding page: For killing monsters and Metins, the Amethyst with the Ruby or the Diamond makes a good pair. If you go through a lot of potions, add the Jade and the Garnet.
Duration, removal and changing bonuses
- Duration: Every dragon stone has a 24-hour duration that only runs while the stone is active. You extend it with a Time Elixir (S), which you extract from unequipped stones with the Tongs of Time. The Alchemist sells the tongs.
- Removal: Trying to remove an equipped stone directly usually fails, and the stone is destroyed. Dragon Tongs raise the success chance by 10%, while Dragon Tongs+ remove the stone with 100% success.
- Changing bonuses: The bonuses of Mythic stones are changed with Flame of the Dragon. The number of flames needed rises with clarity: 1 flame for Matt, 81 for Excellent.
Alchemy isn't available on most servers based on older versions; if you're after this system, take a look at Newschool servers. Where items such as Cor Draconis, beans and tongs come from, and what they cost, also varies from server to server. For upgrade costs, the methods in our Yang farming guide will come in handy.
Frequently asked questions
At what level does alchemy unlock in Metin2?
On the official servers, from level 30 you take the Alchemist's daily quest and start collecting Cor Draconis. After level 110, an additional daily quest unlocks.
Does clarity matter for the set bonus?
No. Equipping and activating 6 stones of the same class is enough; the clarity level has no effect on the set bonus.
How do I remove a dragon stone without breaking it?
Dragon Tongs+ remove the stone with 100% success. Regular Dragon Tongs only give a 10% extra chance, and removing a stone directly usually ends with it being destroyed.
Does alchemy replace item bonuses?
No. Alchemy works separately from your gear, and its bonuses are added on top of your gear's bonuses. We cover the gear side in our bonus guide; to compare servers, you can also check the best servers list.
