Metin2 Skill Group Quest: How to Choose Your Specialization
When your character reaches level 5, you face one of the most lasting decisions in the game: your specialization. The skill group you choose decides which skills you'll use for the rest of the game, how you'll level and what role you'll play in Pvp. This guide explains how the Metin2 skill group quest works, which teacher to visit and how to choose between the two groups of the same class.
How does the skill group quest start?
On the official servers this quest is called The Training, and it starts automatically when your character reaches level 5. The steps are simple:
- Go to the class teachers in the first village. The teachers are in Yongan in Shinsoo, Joan in Chunjo and Pyungmoo in Jinno.
- Talk to one of your class's two teachers and choose your skill group.
- Collect 4 skill points as your reward and spend them on your first skills.
From then on, you get one more skill point every time you level up. Pvp servers may change the quest's level, the teachers' location or the reward. If the quest doesn't show up, check the server's guide or announcements.
Teachers and skill groups by class
Every class has two teachers, and each teacher only teaches the skills of their own group. The table lists the teachers and each group's signature skills by their official English names:
| Class | Skill group | Teacher | Signature skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Body | Body-Force Teacher | Aura of the Sword, Berserk, Dash |
| Warrior | Mental | Mental-Fight Teacher | Strong Body, Spirit Strike, Sword Strike |
| Ninja | Blade-Fight | Blade-Fight Teacher | Ambush, Stealth, Fast Attack |
| Ninja | Archery | Archery Teacher | Repetitive Shot, Arrow Shower, Feather Walk |
| Sura | Weaponry | Weaponry Teacher | Enchanted Blade, Dispel, Enchanted Armour |
| Sura | Black Magic | Black Magic Teacher | Dark Strike, Flame Spirit, Dark Protection |
| Shaman | Dragon Force | Dragon Force Teacher | Flying Talisman, Dragon's Roar, Blessing |
| Shaman | Healing Force | Healing Force Teacher | Cure, Swiftness, Attack Up |
The Lycan doesn't make this choice. According to the official wiki, the Lycan's only skill group is Instinct, and its skills are fixed from the start.
Differences between the two groups of a class
Your class decides your play style; your skill group decides how you play that class:
- Body or Mental? The Body Warrior builds pressure by raising attack value with Aura of the Sword and attack and movement speed with Berserk. The Mental Warrior raises defense with Strong Body and controls opponents with stunning skills such as Sword Strike.
- Blade-Fight or Archery? The Blade-Fight Ninja hides with Stealth and deals burst damage with Ambush and Fast Attack. The Archery Ninja uses a bow and speeds up with Feather Walk to keep the distance.
- Weaponry or Black Magic? The Weaponry Sura raises attack value with Enchanted Blade and steals HP with every hit; with Dispel it removes the opponent's positive effects. The Black Magic Sura deals damage with ranged spells and protects itself with Dark Protection.
- Dragon Force or Healing Force? The Dragon Force Shaman deals damage with talisman and dragon skills while providing protection with Blessing and Reflect. The Healing Force Shaman restores HP with Cure and buffs the team with Swiftness and Attack Up.

Ask yourself before you decide
- Will you play solo? Support groups shine when you play in a group. If you'll mostly level alone, choose a self-sufficient, high-damage group.
- What range do you like? Going at your opponent or keeping them at a distance? In many classes this preference is what separates the two groups.
- What's the server's level range? On 1-99 servers the basic skills and gear are decisive; on higher-level servers extra systems shift the balance. We explain the differences in our level range article, and you can browse 1-99 servers here too.
- What does your guild need? Healers and tough characters are always in demand in guild wars.
- Which group is crowded on the server? A less played group can get you more invites to teams.
How should you spend your first skill points?
When spending the 4 points from The Training quest, think first about skills that speed up leveling. An attack skill that hits several enemies plus a support skill that buffs you makes a good starting pair. According to the official wiki, skills reach Master level somewhere between 17 and 20 points, and after that they improve through skill books. So instead of spreading your points thinly across every skill, prioritize the ones you'll use most.
Can you change your skill group later?
On the official servers, the Old Lady in the village lets players up to level 30 reset their skills. The skill reset scroll sold in the Item Shop, on the other hand, resets only one skill of your choice and gives back at most 17 of the points you spent on it. Whether you can switch your skill group completely depends on the server's rules. Find out the rule before investing heavily in your character, and feel free to ask on our community forum.
Frequently asked questions
At what level does the skill group quest start in Metin2?
On the official servers, The Training quest starts automatically at level 5. Pvp servers may change this level; if the quest doesn't appear, check the server's guide.
Is it a problem to put off choosing a skill group?
Since you learn your class skills from the skill group teacher, putting off the choice slows down your leveling. It's best to make up your mind before you reach level 5.
Does the Lycan choose a skill group?
No. The Lycan's only skill group is Instinct, so it doesn't choose between two groups like the other classes. The Lycan also isn't available on every Pvp server.
Which skill group is stronger for Pvp?
It depends on the server's balance and your play style. If you want to dominate 1v1 fights, consider damage-focused groups; if you want to support your team in guild wars, consider support and tank groups. For duel tactics, see our 1v1 duel guide.
