Metin2 Devil's Catacomb and Azrael Guide
If you've finished the Demon Tower, the next big stop is the Devil's Catacomb. In this dungeon, entered from Hwang Temple, you carry keys floor by floor, weed out fake Metins, fight bosses and finally face Azrael. This guide covers the Metin2 Devil's Catacomb's entry requirements, each floor's task and group tactics for Azrael. The information is based on the official servers; Pvp servers can change the dungeon's requirements, time limit and rewards.
Devil's Catacomb entry requirements
- Entrance: Talk to the Catacomb Guard in Hwang Temple.
- Level: You can enter from level 75.
- Prerequisite: You must have completed the Demon Tower at least once. See our floor-by-floor guide for the tower.
- Group: You need a group to move on to the 2nd floor.
- Shrunken Head: To reach the 3rd floor, everyone in the group needs a Shrunken Head in their inventory. Death Reaper, the Demon Tower's final boss, drops it, and it also comes from some chests and the Item Shop.
- Time limit: According to the English official wiki, you have a total of 1 hour to finish the dungeon, starting from the 2nd floor.
- Cooldown: After leaving, you must wait 30 minutes to enter again.
The Devil's Catacomb floor by floor
1st floor: Soul Crystal Key
Take the Soul Crystal Key the monsters drop and drag it onto the Kud Statue. Clearing monsters fast until the key drops also warms up the group before the clock starts.
2nd floor: Gates of Perdition and Tortoise Rock
Destroy the Gates of Perdition blocking the way to the Tortoise Rock in the middle of the map. When you reach the rock and talk to it, everyone with a Shrunken Head in their inventory is teleported to the 3rd floor. A player without one stays behind, so check everyone's bags before entering.
3rd floor: The real Metin of Retribution
Seven Metins of Retribution spawn on the map, but only one of them is real. According to a tip on the wiki, the direction the Tortoise Rock faces points to the real Metin. With this tip, you won't waste time breaking them one by one.
4th floor: Tartaros and the Grimace Totem
Find and kill the level 89 Tartaros in one of the corners of the map. Drag the Grimace Totem it drops onto the Basalt Obelisk in the middle. Tartaros's hits can slow you and knock you back; once its HP is low, its hits become twice as strong.
5th floor: Charon
Here you must kill all the monsters and the level 91 Charon. Charon calls Erebos for help, and its hits can slow you and knock you back; the monsters around it can push you back too. Fighting together at one spot without splitting up makes this floor much easier.
Final floor: Azrael
The final room is full of monsters that attack you on sight. In the middle of them all, the dungeon's boss, Azrael, awaits.
Tactics for beating Azrael
Azrael is a level 91 boss of the undead race with the darkness element. During the fight it summons Azrael's Spawn and deals skill damage; the Resistance against Skill Damage bonus reduces the damage you take from it. Once its HP is low, its hits become twice as strong.
- Clear the room first: Have a sturdy character pull the aggressive monsters while the area damage dealers melt them; only then start on Azrael.
- Split off the summons: Let the front line take Azrael's Spawn while the damage dealers focus only on Azrael.
- Pick the right bonus: Since Azrael belongs to the undead race, gear with the "Strong against Undead" bonus makes your job easier.
- Save your buffs for the end: Its hits get harder once its HP is low; time your healing and protection skills for this phase.
- Watch the clock: The 1-hour limit starts on the 2nd floor. If you lost time earlier, go into the Azrael fight knowing how many minutes are left.
A damage-focused Shaman can speed up your group; we cover that build in our Dragon Force Shaman guide.
What does Azrael drop?
According to the official wiki, Azrael can drop:
- Azrael's Chest: It can contain weapons such as the Sting Sword and Demon Blade, helmets, armor, Heaven's Tear and Soul Crystal jewelry, Blessing Scrolls and Fine Cloth.
- Gear: +1 weapons such as the Nymph Sword and Divine Apricot Bow; +3 armor such as the Black Steel Armour and Nightshade Armour, plus helmets; Soul Crystal jewelry.
- Mini Azrael's Egg: An egg that hatches into a pet called Mini Azrael; Charon can drop it too.
Since Tartaros and Charon can also drop Soul Crystal jewelry, completing the dungeon pays off well for gear. Our upgrade guide shows how to upgrade what you get.
