Metin2 Fast Leveling Guide: How to Level from 1 to 99

Leveling fast in Metin2 isn't about killing random monsters for hours; it's about stacking the systems that give you experience (EXP). Picking the right monsters, finishing Hunting Quests on time and using the group bonus get you much further in the same time. Below are the key mechanics and a stage-by-stage plan from 1 to 99. The information is based on the official servers; experience rates and systems may differ on Pvp servers.

How does experience work?

You gain experience by killing monsters, completing quests and opening certain chests. Each time one of the first three of the four experience orbs at the bottom left of your screen fills up, you get a status point; when the fourth fills up, you level up and gain a skill point.

What really sets your speed is the level gap between you and the monster. According to the official wiki:

Monster's level (relative to you) Experience you get
More than 15 levels higher 130%
10 levels higher 120%
5 levels higher 110%
Same level 100%
5 levels lower 92%
10 levels lower 50%
More than 15 levels lower 1%

In short, monsters a few levels above you are the most efficient targets; at 10 levels below you, half your experience is gone. The experience you can get from a single monster is also capped at 20% of the total needed for that level, so battling monsters far above your strength stops paying off at some point.

Hunting Quests: ready-made experience at every level

Hunting Quests arrive automatically each time you level up and show up in the Hunting Quest section of the window you open with the N key. They ask you to kill a certain number of monsters; at most levels the reward is 15% of the total experience needed for that level, plus items and, at later levels, Yang.

  • Finish them on time. If your character has already passed the quest's level, it gives at most 1% experience.
  • Think before you skip. You can skip Hunting Quests you have fallen behind on, but a skipped quest can't be taken again.
  • Plan your route around the quest. The monsters it asks for already suit your level, so check it when choosing where to grind.

Quests and Metin stones

At early levels, NPC quests give a lot of experience: on the official servers even quests around level 10 give thousands of EXP, and most of them are on your way. Check the quest window often and don't skip the markers above the NPCs in the village. At level 5 you'll choose your skill group in the training quest; we cover that decision in our skill group quest guide.

Metin stones are a source of both experience and loot. As you hit a stone, groups of monsters appear around it, and they bring experience too. The official wiki recommends hitting Metins close to your own level for the best drops. After level 40, the Demon Tower is a good option for grinding in a group thanks to its dense monster waves.

The math of grouping up

In a group it doesn't matter who kills the monster; everyone gets the experience. On top of that, the bonus experience grows as the group gets bigger:

Group members Bonus experience
2 12%
4 26%
6 53%
8 100%
  • Mind the level gap. Players joining the group shouldn't be more than 30 levels away from the group leader.
  • Stick together. When a group stays together for about 30 minutes, members near the leader get an extra experience bonus.
  • Make use of the Book of the Leader. When the group leader uses this book, 30% is added to the bonus experience each member gets from the group.

Experience items and the death penalty

  • Potion of Wisdom: Gives 100% more experience for 1 hour. On the official servers it comes from Apprentice Chests; it can't be used together with the Potion of Spirit, the Potion of Ascension or the 30-minute Experience Ring.
  • Experience Ring: Increases experience by 50% while active. Besides the Item Shop, it can also drop from some Metin stones and boss chests.
  • Try not to die: If a monster kills you, you can lose part of the experience needed for the next level. Being killed by another player costs no experience, and the "Revive in the city" option also prevents the loss. The Medal of the Dragon prevents the loss when you revive on the spot.

Save experience items for your hardest grinding; their timers keep running even while you shop in the village.

A stage-by-stage plan from 1 to 99

  1. 1–10: Finish the starter quests and Hunting Quests in order, and choose your skill group at level 5.
  2. 10–30: Add Metin stones to your village quests. From level 10 you can travel between maps with the Teleporter for Yang.
  3. 30–50: Start forming groups; at level 40 you can enter the Demon Tower.
  4. 50–75: Move on to tougher maps such as Mount Sohan and Doyyumhwan (Fireland). After level 60 the Teleporter takes you to more areas.
  5. 75–99: Grind in a group in high-level areas such as the Ghost Forest (Lungsam) and the Red Forest, and add the Devil's Catacomb, which opens at level 75, to your list.

Tips for fast leveling on Pvp servers

On Pvp servers, experience rates, Hunting Quests and events vary by server. On For VS servers you reach 99 in no time, while on Hardwork servers the road can take weeks. We compared which level range suits you in our 1-99, 1-105 and 1-120 servers guide.

  • Read the description: The experience rate and starter gear are usually listed on the server page. Pick from the 1-99 servers and For VS servers lists.
  • Follow the events: Experience events are usually announced on Discord, so don't miss those hours.
  • Stay away from cheats: Bots and cheat programs get your account permanently banned.

Frequently asked questions

What's the fastest way to level up in Metin2?

Killing monsters a few levels above you in a group, finishing Hunting Quests before you outlevel them and saving experience items for your most intense grinding hours works best.

Do I lose experience when I die?

On the official servers, if a monster kills you, you can lose part of the experience needed for the next level. Dying to another player or reviving in the city costs no experience.

Does it make sense to kill monsters below my level?

Even if you kill them fast, efficiency drops: you get half the experience from monsters 10 levels below you, and only 1% from those more than 15 levels below.

Do the same rules apply on Pvp servers?

The basic mechanics are usually the same, but experience rates, Hunting Quests and items can vary by server. Check the server's description page and announcements before you start playing.
